BarcelonaIn April 2024, a family in San José de la Vega, Murcia, reported the disappearance of a 36-year-old woman. There had been no news of her until this Wednesday when the National Police arrested a 50-year-old man. He was the missing woman's partner and had held her captive for almost two years. The man held the victim captive and assaulted her for months until she managed to escape and report the situation. The victim is a 38-year-old Moroccan woman who has injuries on various parts of her body as a result of the assaults she allegedly suffered over several months. The arrested man, the victim's partner, is a Spanish national accused of gender-based violence and unlawful detention. In addition to the victim's partner, the police also arrested three other men as alleged accomplices, as they were reportedly aware of the kidnapping and failed to report it.

Ongoing Investigation

Sources from the National Police informed EFE this Thursday that the arrest took place Wednesday afternoon after the victim managed to escape from the house where she had been held captive. The four detainees are in police custody and will be brought before a judge tomorrow, Friday. The Spanish government delegate in Murcia, Francisco Lucas, reported that the investigation is ongoing and noted that the victim had been officially listed as missing for almost two years. Lucas declined to provide further details about the events "given the sensitivity and complexity of the case."
