BarcelonaSince 2019, the Rabassada, the road that connects Barcelona and Sant Cugat del Vallès through the Collserola mountain, was the most dangerous road in CataloniaEdition after edition, it repeated its first-place ranking. compiled by the RACC. But this has changed. According to the 24th iRAP study, covering the three-year period 2022-2024, the T-314, which connects Cambrils and Reus, has become the road with the highest accident rate in the Catalan road network. It is a straight, two-lane road that is less than 10 kilometers long. La Rabassada has moved into second place. The director of the Catalan Traffic Service, Ramon Lamiel, explained that there have been two fatalities and one serious injury on the T-314—a young person who is brain dead—events that "have caused the numbers to skyrocket."
The iRAP study (formerly EuroRAP) compares the number of serious and fatal accidents that have occurred during the last three years on each section of road with the volume of traffic. The analysis covered more than 6,300 kilometers of intercity roads, where 93% of the region's traffic is concentrated and where 79% of accidents resulting in serious injuries and fatalities occur. According to the report, 26% of the analyzed road network presents a high or very high risk of serious or fatal accidents, two percentage points higher than in the previous period, and this risk is concentrated on conventional roads. The study also reveals that serious and fatal accidents have increased by almost 5%, and that motorcycles are involved in 47% of fatal accidents despite representing only 3.2% of overall traffic. The president of the RACC (Royal Automobile Club of Catalonia), Josep Mateu, explained that conventional roads, with a single lane in each direction, are where all the sections with very high, high, and medium risk are concentrated. The ten sections with the most accidents
As in previous studies, the ten sections of the road network with the highest risk of accidents are single-carriageway roads. Of these, five are in the Barcelona province, two in Girona, two in Tarragona, and one in Lleida. The BC-5224 between Manlleu and Torelló, appearing in the ranking for the first time, is also on the list of the ten most dangerous roads, followed by the C-14 between Artesa de Segre and Ponts, also new to the list. Next are the GI-673/GI-674 between Caldes de Malavella and Llagostera, in fourth position, and the BV-5001 between Martorelles and Vilanova del Vallès, in fifth. Regarding heavy goods vehicles, the section with the most accidents is on the N-340, on the Torredembarra bypass. In fact, accidents involving trucks tend to be concentrated within a few kilometers: 50% of serious accidents occurred in just 11.2% of the kilometers analyzed. Three sections of the AP-7 motorway were also included in the list of the ten sections with the highest risk of heavy vehicle accidents.
