This is how the devastation of the Paüls fire looks from the air.

It's been over a week since it originated the fire in Paüls, in the Baix Ebre, which affected 3,321 hectares of agricultural and forest land. In the first images obtained from the air after the extinction of the fire, the devastation of the flames can be seen as far away as Xerta, Aldover, Alfara de Carles and Tivenys.

This Tuesday marks a week since Firefighters The Generalitat (Catalan government) declared the fire that started in Paüls and spread to the Els Ports Natural Park, toward Alfara de Carles, extinguished. From a drone, it's clear how agricultural abandonment influenced the fire's behavior. In the images, the few green patches represent active farms that were spared from the flames. Some appear as a tiny speck within an area of blackness and ash in the dozens and hundreds of burned hectares surrounding them.

The Baix Ebre fire spread from the top of Coscollosa, opposite Paüls, throughout the Valle del Infierno ravine. It is in this area that the start of the fire is being investigated, the causes of which have not yet been determined. On the first night, driven by the wind, it spread as far as the gates of Aldover and Xerta, which saw a large part of the municipal area burned. It was in these towns that the most difficult moments occurred: the flames began to enter the municipalities, as the fire spread very quickly due to the vegetation accumulated in the ravines of the Oreja Valley, Xiveli, and Fornets.

Aerial images also show how it burned the Po plain and the Matagats plain, an agricultural area primarily of olive groves where the extent of the fire can also be identified, by the farmland that had already been abandoned.

As the aerial footage shows, one of the critical points that night was also when the fire crossed the Ebro River near Xerta and burned through the municipality of Tivenys. The blaze also burned through part of the Fajas de Paüls and stopped on the N-230b road between Prat de Comte and Xerta.
