The Prosecutor's Office and the Jubany family request that Santi Laiglesia be sentenced to 26 years in prison

The accusations attribute to the main suspect a crime of murder and another of unlawful detention

12/05/2026

BarcelonaThe Prosecutor's Office has requested a 26-year prison sentence for Santi Laiglesia, the main suspect in the murder of Helena Jubany in 2001 in Sabadell. It is the same request that the Jubany family has made for the trial of the case, which will be held with a jury. In addition to a murder offense, both the public ministry and the private prosecution also attribute to him another of illegal detention. Laiglesia spent 41 days in provisional prison for this case between the end of 2025 and the beginning of this year, and at the time the Prosecutor's Office's sentencing request became known, he is free.

On the other hand, the prosecutor has requested that the case against the other investigated person, Xavier Jiménez, be dismissed, and also does not deem it necessary to try the third suspect, Ana Echaguibel. Her case was already dismissed once it was ruled out that the female DNA traces on Jubany's clothing were hers.
