The murder of a man who disappeared in Reus twenty years ago has been solved.

It was September 2004 when a woman received this message on her phone. It was her ex-partner, with whom she had a daughter together, who had sent it to her. They had broken up a while ago. What seemed like a voluntary disappearance twenty years later has been proven to be murder. What's more, it was allegedly the woman who sent it to him to hide the crime and make it look like he had started a new life in France. Now, at 47 years old, she is in provisional prison as an alleged murderer. after and when there were only three months left for the statute of limitations to expire. The victim disappeared in Reus (Baix Camp) on September 6, 2004. He was a transporter, and also had a fire extinguisher maintenance company. it didn't work out: they broke up and the woman met another man. He is also allegedly a co-author of the crime, but he died in 2022.

On September 6, the victim's sister reported her missing. Everything pointed to her son. his cell phone. Everything changed in 2021, when the body of a man was found in a rural area of Riudecols (Baix Camp), buried, tied up, and covered with a blanket and a tarp. He had shown signs of decomposition, but there were signs of cuts and bruises: he hadn't disappeared, he'd been killed.

And then a new twist came. On February 20, the victim's sister went to a Mossos d'Esquadra police station to explain that an acquaintance of her brother had revealed to a relative the names of the people who had killed him. Everything fit, and in fact, the alleged perpetrators of the crime, the ex-partner and her boyfriend at the time, owned a property near where the body was found.

Investigators have concluded that both tricked him into taking him to this isolated farmhouse with the aim of murdering him with a knife. The goal was to take over the fire extinguisher company he ran. After the murder, they wrapped the body in bedclothes and took it to a nearby wooded area, where they buried it. The property where the alleged perpetrators lived at the time was only 700 meters from where the body was found. Upon examination, injuries to the humerus and two ribs consistent with a knife wound, which were consistent with the cuts in the clothing, were revealed. The investigation has therefore finally determined how the death occurred and identified the alleged perpetrators. The woman was arrested, brought before a court, and remanded in custody.
