A man has been arrested for the death of another man at an abandoned school in Badalona.
The incident occurred in a facility where a hundred people are living in poverty, which Albiol has in his sights.

BarcelonaThe Mossos d'Esquadra have arrested a man for his connection to the death of another man this Thursday morning in Badalona. The crime is believed to have occurred during a fight at the former B-9 high school, as announced by Badalona City Council on X. This is a facility that was abandoned in 2011, when the school was closed, and where more than a hundred people currently live in poverty.
As a result of the fight, which took place around seven in the morning, the victim took refuge in a nearby building. Once there, he collapsed and, despite the SEM's attempts to revive him, he ended up dying. The Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) of the Northern Metropolitan Region of the Mossos d'Esquadra has taken charge of the investigation.
The grounds of the former B-9 high school cover an area of 800 square meters and have long been in the city council's sights, which has been trying to unemploy him through legal means for a year. In fact, in March, the mayor, Xavier García Albiol, from the Popular Party, stated that the City Council was waiting for various appeals to be resolved in order to receive a judge's authorization for the eviction.
In the City Council's sights
In a subsequent press conference, Albiol denounced the city council's two-year "judicial ordeal" to remove the former institute from employment, and accused the Spanish government of "facilitating illegal employment." He also announced that he would request a meeting with Pedro Sánchez to explain the consequences of his "inaction" in this regard.
More than 100 people live in the occupied complex. many of whom were sleeping in the warehouse that burned down in 2020 in the same city. Albiol argued that over the past two years, they have carried out thirteen administrative and judicial procedures to vacate the space and that, although the High Court of Justice (TSJC) issued a ruling authorizing the eviction, they have not yet been successful. The PP mayor criticized the fact that, in his opinion, current legislation "slows down these processes for years." Along these lines, he recalled that twelve of the thirteen rulings on the case ruled in favor of the council and that only one rejected the appeal filed demanding that the occupants be offered alternative housing in order to evict them. This option, as Albiol stated in an institutional statement he read, is not contemplated.
The mayor of Badalona also explained that they have had the contract prepared for months to demolish the interior of the former high school to make it uninhabitable and that all that's needed is for technicians to gain access to it to make it final. The goal, he explained, is to build a police station for the Urban Guard in the future.
