BarcelonaThe headaches for thousands of commuter rail users will continue for at least another day, and normal service will not be restored this Wednesday either. Renfe spokesperson Antonio Carmona explained Tuesday night that the same train service will be maintained, but two sections will be reinforced with alternative transport: buses on the R8 line will run the entire route from Martorell to Granollers Centre. In addition, an extra bus service will be offered between Valls and Camp de Tarragona in the morning and afternoon, connecting with the regional train to Barcelona. Thus, far from the promised return to normal service on Monday, 11 lines will still be experiencing disruptions this Wednesday and will therefore be served by buses. These lines are R1, RG1, R3, R4, RL4, R7, R8, R13, R14, R15, and RT1. Only the R2 North, R2 South, R11, R16, and R17 lines are operating on all sections. Aside from the two additional bus services, Carmona also explained that they are studying improvements to the R3 line to "minimize transfers and improve travel times for passengers going beyond Vic, towards Puigcerdà." The only change to the commuter rail network compared to last weekend is that, since Monday, train service has been restored on the section of the R11 line between Figueres and Portbou. On Tuesday morning, train service was affected by two outages at the Adif control center, which caused a complete suspension of traffic for a few minutes. The railway infrastructure manager has not yet provided details as to why this occurred. "This is a breakdown very similar to the one that occurred last Monday," said Carmona, who also assured that technicians are already working to ensure this situation "doesn't happen again." After another day without service improvements, the Government has demanded that Adif and Renfe resolve the situation as soon as possible to at least "stabilize" the commuter rail service. The Secretary of State for Transport, José Antonio Santano, arrived in Barcelona this afternoon and has already held initial meetings with the Minister of Territory, Silvia Paneque; the Commissioner for the Transfer of Commuter Rail, Pere Macias; and the new Director of Commuter Rail, Òscar Playà, among others.
