The person responsible for a multiple vehicle accident in Granollers, which left eight people injured, is being sought.
Police have not yet clarified whether the incident was intentional or accidental.
BarcelonaThe Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) are investigating a multiple hit-and-run on Saturday night in Granollers (Vallès Oriental) that left eight people injured, none of them seriously. For now, it is unknown whether the incident was intentional or accidental, according to sources within the force consulted by ARA, who have ruled out any hypothesis. At the moment, the police have also not been able to clarify what relationship exists between the victims and the suspect, whom they have not yet been able to locate for arrest. However, the suspect has been identified because eyewitnesses to the incident, as well as the injured themselves, gave the name of the driver, whom they already knew and recognized as he fled.
After the hit-and-run, the man reportedly fled in the direction of Canovelles, a town adjacent to Granollers in the area where the incident occurred. During his escape, the suspect reportedly crashed into a street lamp, which ended up lying on the ground. The collision also caused the suspect's car to lose its bumper, but he continued driving. About three hours later, in the early hours of the morning, a car caught fire in Canovelles, and police believe it could be the vehicle involved in the Granollers hit-and-run. This Sunday, Mossos d'Esquadra officers continued searching for the suspect in the hit-and-run, but at this point they have not yet been able to locate him.
The multiple hit-and-run occurred at around 11:45 p.m. on Maria Palau Street in Granollers, in the Congost neighborhood. Mossos d'Esquadra sources confirm that it left eight people injured, none seriously, and that all those affected were taken to various medical centers. Specifically, two were taken to Granollers Hospital; another two to Mollet Hospital, and another four to the Granollers CUAP (Center for Public Health and Public Health). For its part, the Emergency Medical System confirmed that of the eight injured, four were in less serious condition and four others suffered minor injuries.
Impromptu protest
Following the accident, dozens of people, mainly local residents, gathered in the street and began a protest. ARRO patrols of the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) were activated, although there were no incidents. A Mossos d'Esquadra investigation unit, two units of the Generalitat (Catalan Fire Brigade), SEM ambulances, and local police from Granollers and neighboring municipalities were also activated.
