The detainee for killing his partner in front of their children had reported him a few weeks earlier
The Mossos investigate the events as a misogynistic crime and it was one of the minors who gave the alert
BarcelonaIt was one-thirty in the morning this Wednesday and all of Barcelona's police had his photo and were looking for him. The man turned himself in at the Mossos d'Esquadra police station in Eixample, located in Plaça d'Espanya. He was deeply disturbed. In fact, he initially received psychiatric treatment. Finally, however, the police arrested him as the alleged perpetrator of the murder of his partner, a 34-year-old woman, a few hours earlier at their family home, on Andrade street, in the Sant Martí district. It was not the first time the police had been to that address.
It was a quarter to eight in the evening this Tuesday when the residents of this building called the emergency number, reporting a stabbing in one of the apartments. A few minutes earlier, according to the initial reconstruction of events, a neighbor had parked his van right in front of the entrance, located in a small square not accessible to vehicles. After a few minutes and hearing screams, the neighbor got back into the van and fled.
The first police hypotheses suggest that the man and woman had argued with their two children at home, aged only four and eight, and that the man had murdered her with a knife that the police found at the crime scene. One of the children, the older one, had reportedly asked for help from the stairs, screams for help that alerted the neighbors. The main hypothesis is that of a misogynistic crime.
As ARA has learned, there were no previous records or complaints of misogynistic violence within the couple. However, the man had reported the woman two weeks ago for mistreating him and the children. This report ended with the woman's arrest 15 days ago, although no restraining order was issued. The entire family had been living in this apartment on Andrade street for years and were integrated into the neighborhood. Both had jobs, his linked to the private security sector.
The escape
After committing the alleged misogynistic crime, the man took the van and fled in the direction of Besòs, but not far from his home he parked the vehicle and tried to burn it. The Mossos still don't quite know how he arrived at the Eixample police station this Wednesday morning, almost seven kilometers from the scene of the events.
The Emergency Medical System (SEM) performed several resuscitation maneuvers on the victim, but they could do nothing to save her life. The body showed several stab wounds. The teams from the Barcelona Center for Social Urgencies and Emergencies (CUESB) were dispatched to provide accompaniment and psychological support to the victim's circle.
The Barcelona City Council has also activated the mourning protocol established jointly with institutions and entities, to work in coordination on each case that occurs in the city and which, in part, involves public denunciation on different communication platforms to raise public awareness of this scourge. In this regard, a minute of silence has been called in condemnation and rejection of this incident at 12 noon in Plaça de Sant Jaume.
In parallel, the Department of Equality and Feminism has already condemned the feminicide. In this way, the ministry confirms that this is the fourth misogynistic crime of 2026 and the 163rd since official data began to be collected in 2012. Last year, 11 feminicides were registered, corresponding to 10 women murdered due to misogynistic violence and one linked feminicide. The ministry has expressed its condolences and warmth to the woman's family and friends and to the residents of the town.
