A 73-year-old man dies when part of the facade of a shopping center in Sabadell falls on him.
A concrete panel has come loose and the victim is trapped

SabadellA 73-year-old man died this afternoon in the Via Sabadell shopping center when a concrete panel from the main facade of the Galerías del Tresillo store fell on him. ARA reports that the victim was leaving the store when he was struck by the panel, which fell from a height of 12 meters and measured 12 meters high and 6 meters wide. The man, a resident of Rubí, was accompanied by his wife. Massaguer explained that the panel fell from a height of about 12 meters, and that by the time they arrived at the scene, nothing could be done to save the victim's life. The cause of the collapse was unclear.
For now, there is no forecast for when normality will be restored in the area, as technical services must first confirm that this was a one-time incident and cannot be repeated elsewhere. Massaguer explained that the cause could be "various pathologies" within the building. The head of the fire department emphasized that a situation of this type "is not very common," but admitted that it "can happen."
Regarding material damage, a car was damaged when fragments of the concrete slab fell on it. The incident occurred right next to a playground, just two meters from the facade, and no one was injured.
The Generalitat Fire Department received notification of the incident shortly after 3:30 p.m. and dispatched eight crews to the area. The Emergency Medical System (SEM) was also activated with four units, a joint SEM and Fire Department team, and a team of psychologists who are working with the victim's family.
Upon arrival, emergency teams found that a person was trapped under the rubble. Firefighters worked throughout the afternoon to lift the plates, and the victim's body was now removed. Following the incident, the Fire Department also evacuated the adjacent businesses as a precaution, 25 stores in total, as the structure could be damaged.
The Mayor of Sabadell, Marta Farrés, offered the council's condolences to the victim's family and indicated that the municipal government has joined the Fire Department's efforts to clarify the causes of the incident. Also present were Sílvia Paneque, the regional minister for Territory, Ecological Transition, and Housing of the Generalitat (Catalan Government), and Pilar Diaz, the regional government delegate in Barcelona.
