BarcelonaThe Mossos d'Esquadra are investigating the homicide of a woman in the Nou Barris district of Barcelona. A man turned himself in this Wednesday to the Municipal Police of Madrid as the alleged perpetrator of this crime. According to sources consulted by ARA, the victim and the detained man were a couple. As reported by the High Court of Justice of Catalonia, there are no prior judicial records between the two.

Everything happened this Wednesday. In the morning, the Mossos and the Barcelona Fire Department received a report from a person who stated that there was a woman inside a home in Nou Barris who was not responding. Finally, emergency teams were able to access the apartment and found the lifeless body of the woman. The corpse showed clear signs of violence, according to police sources. The home where the crime took place is in an area very close to the Fabra i Puig train station.

A few hours later, when the investigation had just begun, a man presented himself this afternoon before the National Police of Madrid. He did so by claiming that he was the perpetrator of the homicide of his partner in Barcelona. Immediately, the Madrid police contacted the Mossos and proceeded to arrest the man.

The case, led by the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC), remains open and is under seal. The main police hypothesis is that the man had managed to flee to Madrid after the crime, although he eventually regretted it and turned himself in to the police. While the investigation has just begun, the first indications point to it being a sexist crime.

If, as everything seems to indicate, the sexist nature of this crime is confirmed, it will be the fifth femicide of this year in Catalonia. Last year, this figure rose to ten. Since official data began to be collected in 2012, there have been 162 femicides in Catalonia, of which 152 are women and 10 correspond to murdered infants and adolescents.
