BarcelonaThe mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, has withdrawn in extremis from the agenda of this Friday's plenary session a proposal for a "productivity bonus" in salary matters. The bonus was aimed at high-ranking "command" officials of the City Council and could mean a 5% increase in the base salary for executives who already earn high salaries.

The objective of the bonus that the mayor wanted to put to a vote was to reward those officials and executives who managed to perform exceptionally and who represented good "leadership". Finally, however, he did not manage to find enough support among the opposition groups. “It is withdrawn due to a lack of agreement for its approval, we hope to be able to bring it forward soon so that it can be definitively approved," stated the second deputy mayor, Albert Batlle, once Mayor Collboni announced the withdrawal of the proposal during the plenary session.

How the bonus works

According to municipal sources, the supplement is an extra that would only apply if certain "measurable and quantifiable in advance" requirements have been met, and would be reviewed by a parity monitoring committee made up of representatives of the Administration. Individuals subject to this salary increase would first be evaluated on a scale of 0 to 10. To receive part of the supplement, they would have to achieve at least a 7, or a 9 to receive it in full.

The council defends that this is one more measure of the set of public policies applied for the promotion of leadership and the search for people with the will to promote themselves internally.
