A body was found inside a suitcase in Vilanova i la Geltrú and a suspect was arrested.
This is the second death in a few days in the municipality of Garraf.
BarcelonaThe Catalan police (Mossos d'Esquadra) have arrested a man after finding the body of a person inside a suitcase in the center of Vilanova i la Geltrú, in the Garraf region. As reported by Eix Diari and confirmed by ARA, the suitcase was found by a cleaning worker this Saturday morning next to a container on Carrer del Agua, very close to Plaça Anxeneta. The worker notified the emergency services at 7:39 a.m., and the local police and the Catalan police quickly cordoned off the area. Shortly afterwards, officers from the Catalan police force arrested a man suspected of the crime. The Catalan police investigation is still ongoing, and the judicial delegation has not yet arrived at the scene.
A few minutes after 10:00 a.m., the Vilanova i la Geltrú City Council issued a statement on social media condemning the events: "Following the news of another violent death in just a few days in our city, the City Council wishes to express its profound condemnation of these events." A violent stabbing had already occurred in the municipality on September 11, when a homeless man, Milan, who had been living in a park for five years, suffered several fatal stab wounds. The council called for "prudence" in the face of these events, two deaths in less than 10 days, which it considers "exceptional."
