The video game industry is unstoppable in terms of the number of titles released, but unfortunately, this growth is not guaranteed at the business level, with layoffs and closures becoming commonplace. Nevertheless, 2025 was a spectacular year, with a significant number of video games standing out for their quality. This list includes major productions, but also independent titles that have garnered attention and international acclaim.

Donkey Kong, also abbreviated as DK, is the most charismatic gorilla in the world of video games, but also a character with a lot of history. He was originally conceived by legendary creator Shigeru Miyamoto, before laying the foundations for major series such as Mario and The Legend of ZeldaDK's first appearance was as an antagonist in the arcade game Donkey Kong (1981), a platform game in which the player controlled a primitive Mario (then known as Jumpman) and where the objective was to save Pauline, the first damsel in danger before being replaced by the best-known Princess PeachOver time, the primate took on a distinct identity, starring in a series of games and becoming part of Nintendo's beloved roster of characters.

In the past, purchasing a new console meant retiring your existing library along with the hardware and choosing a game to debut on the new machine. But times change. The industry is at a point where backwards compatibility is prioritized, multi-generational gaming exists, and digital content is the order of the day. Taking advantage of the fact that this Thursday marks the launch of the new Nintendo Switch 2, we'll try to shed light on how the different types of games that run on the console are structured while listing the main new releases that have already been officially announced.

The Nintendo Switch 2, scheduled for release on Thursday, June 5, represents an evolution over its predecessor, especially in terms of power and performance, but it's largely consistent—given that it's Nintendo—in terms of its design and functionality. Beyond the technical specifications, a new, trademark feature is the ability to use the new Joy-Con 2 as a computer mouse. Thanks to Nintendo, we were able to test the new console for a few hours at the ARA and experience firsthand everything it offers. We'll explain it below and provide our final assessment.

Nintendo's new console, the Nintendo Switch 2, will be released on June 5, 2025. Last Wednesday, the Japanese company presented all the new features in a YouTube stream. The console has 4K resolution and will support 60 FPS (frames per second), meaning gaming will be a fluid experience that will allow for high-quality scenes, especially action scenes. The screen has HDR technology (high dynamic range, in its acronym in English), which improves the contrast of dark and light areas and offers more vivid colors, with sharper details. Nintendo has announced that the processor of its new console will be NVIDIA, although it has not yet determined what type. Nintendo Switch 2 has 256 GB of internal memory, eight times more than the original Switch, to store, among others, digital games and save data.

In the world of video games, this February brings us remakes High-flying games, experimental projects from indie creators, and other interesting offerings like the latest from the creators of Little Nightmares. Interestingly, there's a notable presence of games aimed at an adult audience. We'll review this month's main releases chronologically.
