The eviction of Maricarmen Abascal has triggered a wave of indignation that was visible on Wednesday in the streets of Madrid, Barcelona, and various cities across the State, and has been repeated this Saturday in a demonstration in the center of the Spanish capital. Under the slogan Not one more Maricarmen, thousands of people gathered in the Plaza del Sol, where the headquarters of the Community of Madrid government is located, to march to the Madrid City Council and end at the Congress of Deputies. In total, 25,000 people took to the streets, according to the Spanish government's delegation – 300,000 according to the organizers. The Madrid Renters' Union ended the demonstration by calling for an encampment at Sol, and tents have spread across this square in the center of Madrid.

Knowing how to read, reading to learn, and a love for reading. These are the three pillars on which, according to the Department of Education, the school reading plan (PLEC) must be based. Or, in other words, the plan that sets the didactic and organizational line that a school or institute must follow to ensure that students end up being good readers. At the moment, this organizational document is only a recommendation, and only about 700 of the little more than 2,500 public educational centers have a reading plan that meets the requirements set by the Generalitat. However, among the measures to reinforce learning announced by Minister Esther Niubó this week is, precisely, making the PLEC mandatory. This implies that, for the coming academic year, more than 1,800 public schools and institutes will have to create their reading plan from scratch or modify it to comply with this directive.

The death of the renowned Catalan architect Josep Juanpere was initially attributed to a heart attack. New strategy underway to transform the image of public transport in Catalonia. The Department of Territory wants to unify all public transport in Catalonia into a single brand or "umbrella brand," which is currently "fragmented" into different identities. This is stated in a tender that was made public this week, in which the Government is looking for a company to be commissioned with the "conceptualization, design, and creation" of this new brand and the development of a "manual" for its use. The budget is just over 250,000 euros and the deadline to have the new image defined is six months.

The investment fund Blackstone —through its subsidiary Anticipa— has committed to negotiating the social leases it holds in Catalonia on a case-by-case basis. The Barcelona City Council demanded this Friday that the manager of the Horta Velodrome prevent the participation in one of the 7-a-side football leagues held there of a team that promotes Francoism. The city's Sports Councilor, David Escudé, has sent a letter requesting the expulsion of the team Mingorrubio Balompié —alluding to the cemetery where the dictator is buried—, which, as reported by SER, has among its members two Vox officials in Barcelona and displayed Francoist symbology on its crest.

A week ago, a score of migrants reported having suffered beatings and humiliation by military personnel deployed on the streets of Ceuta and the Spanish government announced that it would open an internal investigation into the events. Days later, several videos have come to light showing some of the reported actions and providing graphic proof of them. The images, which Eldiario.es has had access to, show several uniformed soldiers chasing, subduing, and beating migrants at various points in the Spanish enclave.

On Wednesday, Maricarmen Abascal was forced to leave what had been her home for more than seventy years. Social movements have turned the case of this woman from Madrid into a symbol of the serious housing problem affecting Spain. Luxury hotels in the city of Barcelona dodged a double tax increase this Friday. The Civil Guard is investigating a possible racist assault on a man by a large group of youths in the Valencian town of Tavernes de la Valldigna.
