Issiaga Sylla was 19 years old when he arrived in Catalonia completely alone. He says he did not understand the culture, nor did he speak Catalan or Spanish, and he barely knew anyone here from his country. He is from Guinea Conakry. "I didn't interact with anyone," he confesses.

As a child, Mohammed Fadily met thousands of children like him, minors living in shelters after having crossed the border illegally to achieve a better life in Europe. Now, scientists have studied its DNA to try to extract data that will help us live longer.

There are few Latin American women more famous than Sofía Vergara. The 54-year-old Colombian actress is today on the Olympus of Latin American fame on a global scale. So much so that she can only be compared to JLo, Shakira and, in a way, Salma Hayek. "Cross the catwalk!" It has been 25 years since this television cry became popular. "It's been many years and many hatreds." That is how Gabriel Rufián spoke, in an interview this Friday on RAC1, about the obstacles to achieving a unitary list of the left in the State. The Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) has prohibited the presence of activist Vito Quiles throughout the university campus for the event he intends to hold this Monday, after the agitator announced his intention to give a talk there on Friday.

"Let them hear it loud and clear: I love you". This is how the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, addressed his wife during a rally in Fuenlabrada following the federal committee meeting that approved the PSOE's candidate lists for November 29th. In an event charged with high emotion, Sánchez began his speech by referring to Begoña Gómez, his wife, who is facing trial and was seated in the front row. "They have tried to break us in every way and have achieved just the opposite. Today we are more united and stronger than ever. Let them hear it loud and clear: I love you," he declared, while also thanking her for being his wife and the mother of his daughters. Then Gómez went up to the stage, and they hugged and kissed before the audience's ovation. Later, he made a post saying that he loves her with the video of the scene.

Miriam Nogueras, Junts candidate for the general elections on November 29, has criticized the parties that go to Madrid to "engage in servility" and has reclaimed Junts as the only party of "strictly Catalan obedience".

The facts are as follows: the Broad Front, which wanted to recreate the 2023 Sumar formula, has not been possible on a general scale, so both Irene Montero and Ada Colau will formally be candidates for the presidency of the Spanish government. Neither of them, however, is the preferred candidate for the bulk of Spanish left-wing voters, who prefer (oh, surprise) the republican Gabriel Rufián. And now let's recap.

Donald Trump, who in his election campaign promised to end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours, began his second term by starring in an extremely tense meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office, where he did not hide his disdain for the Ukrainian leader. That set off alarms in Kyiv and, although the two leaders apparently eased the tension, it has become clear in recent days that Trump continues to belittle the Ukrainian president, whom he points to as the culprit for not being able to reach a peace agreement while celebrating the alleged willingness of Vladimir Putin. And in all this context, aid from the United States to Ukraine has remained blocked for almost two years, since Trump returned to the White House.

Amid the rapprochement between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, the Ukrainian army launched a drone attack this Saturday night against Saint Petersburg, Russia's second-largest city with more than five million inhabitants, and the Leningrad region. It is considered one of the largest drone attacks of the entire war, and it has left one person dead and five injured. About 20,000 people were left without electricity due to the damage caused to an electrical substation, and damage also occurred to several residential buildings.

Roberto Saviano (Naples, 1979) wanted to write a love novel. But when he discovered the story of Rossella Casini, a young woman raped, murdered, and dismembered by the family of her boyfriend, Francesco Frisina, heir to a 'Ndrangheta clan, he began an investigation that brought to light one of the cruelest crimes perpetrated by the Calabrian mafia. The Italian journalist seems especially dejected, convinced that he has sacrificed his life in vain. While abroad he is recognized as a brave writer, in Italy there are those who reproach him for having diminished or tarnished the country's image by denouncing the relationships between power and organized crime. Saviano has lived under police protection for 20 years after being threatened with death by the Casalesi clan, one of the most bloodthirsty in the Camorra. He was 26 years old, almost the same age as Rossella Casini when she was brutally murdered.

Uncertainty has settled into Donald Trump's United States electoral appointments, and the midterm elections of November 3rd are no exception. The concern regarding any possible attempt by the U.S. president to interfere in the elections has led thousands of volunteers to train for what might happen on November 3rd: from a possible deployment of ICE agents to the White House's attempt to challenge the results in some districts. "Authoritarians feed on fear, and the way to combat it is by organizing people," explains Jessica Acee to ARA, organizer of States at the Core (STAC), a pro-democracy group that has trained more than 50,000 volunteers for the upcoming elections.

"We were born in war and we will die in war," says Natasha, accompanied by her husband, Leonidas, both eighty-three years old, on the fourth floor of an empty building in the center of Kramatorsk. Liena, a worker at one of the few grocery stores left in the neighborhood, tries to convince them to leave the city, that even living in a basement is a death sentence: "If the Russians arrive, they will throw a grenade and ask afterwards if there is anyone alive." The octogenarian couple lives trapped in the uncertainty of a meager pension, between the approach of a war front that is about nine kilometers away and the anxiety over daily shootings and the high-pitched sound of fiber-optic drones searching for vehicles to destroy. Despite this situation on the streets, every Sunday morning they attend the mass offered in an abandoned restaurant near their home, where about thirty people gather to pray and sing.

Artificial intelligence (AI) will change the way we work and many other things. Among them, taxes. The tax system of countries will have to adapt. Currently, a large part of tax revenue comes from labor income (wages) through a progressive tax (the more you earn, the more you pay), which is the personal income tax (IRPF). But to the extent that AI will reduce jobs – at least during a transition period during which many jobs will disappear, be transformed, or require less personnel – public coffers will notice it.

Foment del Treball raises an alarm and warns that the increases in gas and electricity prices put "the continuity of industrial activity at risk," in a statement this Sunday. For this reason, despite the call for elections, it demands "extraordinary and immediate measures" from the Spanish government.

In the eyes of the world, France is once again the sick man of Europe. It is nothing new in a country historically marked by labor conflict, political scandals, military defeats, and crises of all kinds, but at the same time, it is not good news that, in the current climate of student protests and a pre-election environment marked by the rise of the far right, fears regarding the viability of the country's public finances are now being added.

The Spanish economy remains at the forefront of advanced countries in growth, with a forecast of 2.6% this year according to the Bank of Spain and 2.5% according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). But inflation, they also warn, eats away at the purchasing power of wages that are not enough to buy or rent a house. The remuneration of employees has gained weight in the Spanish economy, but it is starting to lose it in favor of the profits of some business sectors. Workers perceive that with every euro they buy fewer and fewer things, or that they need more to acquire the same. There is a palpable reality, the rise in prices, which has stalled the contribution of wages to the total wealth this year, and a psychological element, according to the experts consulted, which makes many ask themselves: "Now that the economy is doing well, when is it my turn?"

Training as an insertion tool. The Formació i Treball Foundation is a true institution in Catalonia. It was founded in 1992 by Caritas and its main objective is to train people at risk of social exclusion so that they can subsequently be inserted into the labor market. Their model is radically opposed to that of traditional companies: while companies usually seek to retain talent, the foundation provides jobs to hundreds of people so that they can later work in conventional companies. "Our reason for being is the labor insertion of people," the entity's president, Misi Borràs, assuresCompanies.

A phone call interrupts the conversation, but it no longer leaves her "desperate," as it did a few months ago. "They keep calling, but now I answer the phone calmly and tell them that I am exonerated," says Lisa Manresa. As she explains it, she breaks down the amounts that ended up becoming an unaffordable debt: 14,000 euros for her husband's dental work, 15,000 for the car, and 72,000 euros pending on the mortgage she shared with her ex-partner, the expenses associated with her eldest daughter's borderline personality disorder, who is 30... When she could no longer keep up with the payments, the accumulated debt had climbed to 208,000 euros.

About sixty young people have reported having been victims of a scam in the purchase of tickets for the Oques Grasses concerts at the beginning of October in Barcelona. The Central Cyberfraud Unit of the Mossos has opened an investigation and the police believe that the number of affected people could be much higher.

The death of Helena Jubany, murdered in 2001, will go to trial more than two decades later. The judge in Sabadell who is instructing this case has decided to send Santi Laiglesia to trial, a lawsuit that will be heard by a popular jury at the Barcelona Court. This decision cannot be appealed, according to judicial sources, and will lead Laiglesia to sit in the dock. In the document, the judge concludes that there are "rational indications of criminality" against Laiglesia.

Until recently, getting the residents of the Sagrada Família and the temple to agree seemed like an impossible mission. Now, however, the Barcelona City Council has achieved it twice over. On one hand, because before the summer it reached a nascent agreement regarding the impact that the staircase of the Glory façade would have on the buildings in front, which satisfied both parties. Maria Martorell thought the problem would be running out of writers. La Zaranda, Teatro Inestable de Ninguna Parte, celebrates its fortieth anniversary with the annual appointment at the Romea by the will of its until now director Josep Maria Pou and in attention to the group of fans that have followed them for so many years. And the fact is that La Zaranda's theater is so peculiar and different from everything that can be seen on stage... A theater stripped of artifices that makes virtue of simplicity and that draws from the classics without performing them. A theater in which the creation of a singular world prevails, crossed by an almost existentialist poetics and inhabited by losers. Displaced characters like Beckett's clowns who do not know what to do or how to do it but who continue with inherited routines. Characters of great pathos like these angels that Eusebio Calonge has imagined and that could just as well inhabit a corner of the Spanish picaresque of the Golden Age as the London neighborhood of Mackie the Knife, from The Threepenny Opera, or the suburbs of a modern city. "If these songs have reached today, it is because they are bangers", declared Marc Heredia, composer and pianist of the Trio Fortuny. Agreed, they are bangers. The result is Edge, a jewel that next year will take the form of an album, but which is already a beautiful and exciting show, delicate and at the same time powerful, premiered Saturday evening at the Kursaal, in one of the climaxes of the Fira Mediterrània de Manresa, which has supported them as co-producers from its Obrador d’Arrel.

Sometimes it is hard to tell where football ends and art begins with this Barça. A team full of artists that turns a game with a ball into a spectacle that catches the eye, stringing together routs as if it were easy to score five goals (2-5). And all this, with a Lamine Yamal who is up to his usual tricks. A teenager who is rewriting the history books of football. In a stadium that is always imposing, Hansi Flick's team did not fail either, even though they suffered at times. The topless, which for decades was part of the usual landscape of Mediterranean beaches, is today an increasingly exceptional practice. Data suggests that, compared to the eighties, it has decreased by two-thirds. And the paradox is that the women who continue to practice it the most are precisely those who grew up during the sexual revolution. The youngest, on the other hand, have barely even incorporated it. Beaches and swimming pools have ceased to be friendly spaces for body diversity. Bodies forced to coexist with the scrutinizing gaze of others and, above all, with their own, often even crueler, the result of low self-esteem eroded by a system that turns insecurity into a business.When the feminist struggles of the seventies denounced the sexualization of women's bodies, they already sensed that this battle would not be easy. Half a century later, it continues to be one of the great open fronts. There will be those who consider it inevitable to sexualize female breasts, as if it were a natural instinct against which it were useless to rebel. But history shows precisely the opposite. During the first half of the 20th century, male nipples were also the object of censorship and scandal. Only when men began to uncover their torsos normally on beaches did that moral burden gradually fade. The sexualization of the body, therefore, is not immutable, but simply the result of a cultural construction, even if we want to dress it up as natural.The paradox is that we have never lived with so many images of naked bodies and, yet, for decades these have not been so unfree. Captives of aesthetic pressure and the surveillance society, the youngest have inherited more images of the body than their mothers, but less freedom to inhabit it.

We wake up all year round and when we blink we see that it is 6 in the morning, mostly we would like to turn back the clock without knowing the wonderful point of putting our feet on the ground and starting to walk. However, in August nothing is the same. At this time, the blinds of almost everywhere are still down, the terraces are cleared and the first buses pass through the streets, some delivery drivers, people walking their dogs and athletes who have decided to start the day when many are still sleeping. And to know what lies behind all this and why it is worth trying, all it takes is a simple gesture of putting your feet on the ground and getting out of bed. Really, you don't have to be a runner nor turn your vacation into military training. Walking very early is simply a rather unpopular way to make the most of summer days (or a single day) and, above all, to recover hours that we often ignore because we associate them with the alarm clock and going to work. There are many reasons not to forget about this time slot to simply walk and walk.1. Rediscover the backstage of daily theater

Walking at six in the morning in August is, first and foremost, a way to rediscover your surroundings. When it's still dark or starting to get light, the streets have a completely different rhythm from what they will show a few hours later. Silence replaces noise, the promenades and boulevards are walked almost alone, and the light changes minute by minute until sunrise. Like a moving picture that only happens at that precise moment. According to Canal Salut, during the summer it is advisable to move and exercise in the early morning or in the evening and avoid the hottest hours. Specifically, the Department of Health points out the period between 12 and 5 p.m. as when temperatures are highest and the risk of heatstroke increases. Among its proposals for staying active in summer is precisely taking walks in the morning or evening. Likewise, the World Health Organization (WHO) goes even a little further when talking about heat episodes. If demanding physical activity is to be carried out, with an intensity that goes beyond walking, it recommends moving it to the coolest part of the day and even recommends the period from 4 to 7 a.m. This (almost extreme) recommendation helps to understand why moving the walk forward a few hours can make sense during the hottest days. 4. Your 'vip' moment

In summer we strive to find secret coves, little-known villages, and viewpoints that social networks have not yet discovered. But leaving home to walk at 6 in the morning solves everything, like a magic wand that makes us instant vips full of powers: visiting natural spaces when there is almost no one; taking the photo without competition; having the spiritual privilege of being the only being in that space, and having a golden hour light that cannot be easily found. For example, we can manage to conquer a promenade before the first bathers arrive, walk along a boulevard without the usual hustle and bustle, or admire an iconic facade in solitude and silence.5. Achieving a well-deserved reward 

The best thing is that the plan can have a reward, and a good one. After walking for an hour or an hour and a half, when the bakeries and cafes start to open, it's time for breakfast. A coffee, something freshly made with the intoxicating aroma of bakeries and workshops in operation, and that strange feeling of having lived half a day when it's still eight o'clock. 6. Love and share with others

But leaving the house so early is not just an introspective activity that benefits oneself. Fillol assures that fat is burned naturally, legs, heart and joints are strengthened, and stress and anxiety are reduced. One of the reasons to go out early in the summer is that, paradoxically, you might not have to do it at 6 AM. Social networks are also full of travelers who get up at 4 and even 2 to climb peaks in the Alps, the Pyrenees, Greece, Sicily, the United States, or any Indonesian volcano or remote summit in order to see, at least one day, the landscape from another perspective. Conversely, there are also many tourists who come to our coasts to see the sun rise over the Mediterranean. For example, the British Georgia explains all that the landscape component of the sea brings her: "I will never stop feeling grateful", and she places these kinds of walks as the best. Like her, dozens of travelers cannot help but be impressed by the Mediterranean landscape and its dawn reflections. It is enough to go out when there are still few people, to see how more cars and pedestrians gradually appear and to check how, in just over an hour, that initial silence disappears. There are no more woodcutters. This forest trade from the mid-20th century disappeared due to the energy transition – the replacement of natural resources with fossil fuels – and the rural exodus towards cities. It is an example of how the economy of many territories has been transformed and, consequently, their landscape, especially the forest. Reflections like this have been brought back to the table following the major fires that have ravaged Catalonia and the State, and which have put the need – although some speak of an obligation – to manage a forest that, added to the climate crisis, has an unprecedented fuel load. And behind it all, a key but wasted resource: wood and its potential. "It has much more than we are giving it," anticipates Mario Beltrán, technician at the Centre for Forest Science and Technology of Catalonia (CTFC). This does not mean that wood is not used in our country, but much of it comes from abroad. Today, Catalonia imports 80% of the wood it consumes. Of this amount, 40% comes from other parts of Spain and the rest from abroad. In Spain as a whole, more wood is also imported than exported, especially in the form of products with higher added value such as sawn timber and paper pulp.

In 2005, four friends who shared an apartment in Barcelona decided to found an association named Freedonia to promote activities related to theater, music, art, and culture in general. Some time later, in 2009, they opened their own venue on Lleialtat street in El Raval, very close to the editorial office of l’ARA, which has become one of the music venues underground more active and resistant in the city, along with others such as the Meteoro hall, Diobar, or Heliogàbal in Gràcia. One of the founders was Coque Sánchez: “At that time, some venues we liked had to close and we wanted to create a space to share culture beyond the commercial logic of bars or nightclubs”. Currently, Coque manages this non-profit entity “with almost 10,000 active members” that schedules live music every weekend with a capacity for a hundred people. An increasingly exceptional project in the city, as obtaining a live music license is quite complicated: “Venues are closing and new ones are not opening. 30 years ago, there were about 400 live music licenses in the metropolitan area, and now we have 160. Barcelona wants to boast of being a culturally active city, but with the conveniences of a dormitory city; we must mediate to defend the rest of the neighbors, but also to promote nightlife culture, which is also a service to citizens and serves, among other things, to prevent young people from all ending up with depression”.

In the summer of 1980, the Spanish people watched with perplexity the outbreak of what would become one of the most remembered cases of the peninsula's true crime history. We are talking about the murder of the Marquis and Marchioness of Urquijo, an aristocratic couple who were victims of shots from a mysterious figure while they slept in their mansion in Somosaguas (Madrid). We label the killer as mysterious because, although the justice system handed down a sentence and convicted the couple's former son-in-law, the speculations about the participants in the crime have never stopped over the last forty-six years. In fact, the court itself opened the door to various hypotheses when it stated in the sentence that the person who fired was undoubtedly Rafael Escobedo Alday, "alone or in the company of others". This addendum seemed to point to a large number of individuals, all of them members of a grotesque bunch of characters who for years were protagonists in the media: the children of the Marquis and Marchioness, the irascible estate administrator, the effeminate butler, Dick the American (the daughter's second husband), the Marquis of Torrehermosa, or Javier Anastasio de Espona, who is the one we are really interested in.

Sandra Bruna (Barcelona, 1973) is a literary agent. Twenty-five years ago she created the Sandra Bruna Literary Agency and represents more than a hundred authors.

She grew up on Nàpols street, in the Dreta de l'Eixample, which she claims has changed a lot over the years. “It was a neighborhood that was a real neighborhood. I remember Miquel, the man from the kiosk, the plumber who would come to the house to fix things for you... That which now seems like it can only happen in small towns, before it also happened in the neighborhoods of Barcelona,” she explains. Bruna went to the Sagrat Cor school, in Tetuan square. “I was a very studious girl, but the sciences were very hard for me. I had to put a lot of effort into math, chemistry, physics, and that was a tough process. On the other hand, everything that was literature went very well for me. The audience at the Sitges Festival, so noted this edition for the bad habit some spectators have of applauding every violent death whether it is pertinent or not, has once again shown that, when it wants to, it can be the great asset of this festival. And it has done so with a simple and natural gesture, of elemental justice: awarding the best film of the festival, Wildwood, an extraordinary film that is already history of animation cinema, if not of cinema in general. The film from the animation studio in stop motion Laika, a true technical and cinematic prodigy, has taken the festival's Audience Award, but the official section jury has completely ignored it in its list of winners and opted to award a minor and derivative work like the French Sanguine, the second feature film by Marion Le Corroller, which underlines with a fluorescent pencil its critique of the labor exploitation of capitalism with elements of body horror borrowed from much superior recent titles like Cru or The Substance.

We usually consider resignations an honorable (and rare) gesture but they are often more cosmetic than decisive. In the case of the socialists' spokesperson, it is obvious that it is an aesthetic issue: it looks bad for someone to come out making grand proclamations in favor of tenants while their partner is actively pursuing evictions in the courts and speculating in the real estate casino, where the bank also always wins. Now, I would bet a pea, or a penthouse in Madrid if I had one, that she must not be the only politician caught in this contradiction. The thing is not to get caught. From there, the day's press made it evident that the situation was a lose-lose for Sánchez. And the right-wing newspapers fell into amusing contradictions. For example, El Mundo headlined: “Hypocrisy over housing wipes out the PSOE spokesperson” and said in a subtitle that “Sánchez asked her to stay because she was 'a great asset' to the party”. According to this thesis, it is Montse Mínguez who decides to quit, knowing that she has become a burden. And the newspaper, of course, tried to attach this dead weight to the leader of the PSOE, to see if there is any luck and he sinks with her in the process. On the other hand, the ABCexecuted a different (and incompatible) strategy. On the front page they wrote: “Sánchez sacrifices the PSOE spokesperson to cover up the housing fiasco”.
