The delegate of the Spanish government in Ceuta resigns

The Spanish government will replace Miguel Ángel Pérez Triano as government delegate in Ceuta. According to sources from Moncloa, the delegate had conveyed his wish not to continue in the position a few days ago, in a decision that the executive describes as "human and personal" after "many weeks of immense work."

Pérez Triano, who assumed the position last February, will appear before the media this Monday. His departure comes after the migration crisis in July and the controversy over the warnings that the CNI had relayed to the Government Delegation before the mass entry of migrants. His chief of staff, Gonzalo Sanz, resigned on September 11 after stating that he had relayed the information received from the CNI to Pérez Triano. Pérez Triano has denied having any knowledge of it.

The replacement will foreseeably be formalized this Tuesday at the Council of Ministers. As reported by Cadena SER, Pérez Triano's substitute will be David de la Encina, who was mayor of El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz) between 2015 and 2019. The appointment is still pending approval by the Spanish government.

Pérez Triano's departure comes a few weeks after the migration crisis that Ceuta experienced in July, when thousands of people attempted to enter the autonomous city.
