BarcelonaGabriel Rufián and Irene Montero have met April 9th to hold a joint eventThe event, moderated by Xavier Domènech, aims to promote a united left-wing front in the lead-up to the next general elections. So far, the exact location has not been made public; organizers had only stated it would be in Barcelona. According to ARA, it will definitely not be held at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), despite the organizers' initial wish. The UAB has rejected the request. The reason? The university does not lend its spaces for events that are not "academic," according to sources at the institution. Organizers are now exploring alternative venues and expect to announce the final location in the coming days.

The April 9th event was not the first time Gabriel Rufián had acted in support of the left-wing front. In mid-February, the ERC spokesperson in Congress held an event in Madrid alongside the spokesperson for Més Madrid, Emilio Delgadowhere he specified his proposal: that in each province the left-wing party with the best electoral prospects should be presented in order to concentrate the vote.

However, Rufián's proposal lacks the support of both the leadership of ERC, his party, and most of the parties to the left of the PSOE. In fact, just a few weeks ago, the parties that formed the Sumar coalition in the 2023 general elections presented the new platform under which they intend to run, which, for the moment, is titled One step forwardHowever, Podemos is not part of this project, having already broken with Sumar at the beginning of the legislature. MEP and Podemos leader Irene Montero defended the event with Rufián when it was announced, calling it a "very good idea" to team up with him in the upcoming general elections.
