The millionaire who broke with Citizens and who does the show of the "armada" of Ceuta

BarcelonaWith a beer in his hand, on his luxurious boat, he defended the arguments of the ultra-flotilla that sailed to Ceuta to "support" the autonomous city, claim its "Spanishness," and blame the Spanish president, Pedro Sánchez, for the migration crisis. It was Marcos de Quinto (Madrid, 1958), a former Coca-Cola executive and former deputy for Ciudadanos, who left politics six years ago but enjoys living in controversy.

Since 1982, when he held positions at Coca-Cola (he reached the global vice presidency between 2015 and 2017), he has advised multiple companies, but in March 2019 he was signed by Ciudadanos, at a time when the orange party was competing with the PP for hegemony on the right. He became the wealthiest deputy, with assets of more than 47 million euros, nineteen vehicles, five houses, and a boat, but it did not take long for him to cause problems with provocative tweets: "He does not have a party personality," claim knowledgeable sources from Ciudadanos. According to these sources, De Quinto "was a great executive who showed interest, spoke with the leadership, and was thought to be an interesting signing with a business profile," which complemented that of Luis Garicano and helped "convey the idea that Ciudadanos could form a government of specialists."

He broke with Ciudadanos after the pact with the Spanish government regarding the state of alarm, and since then his radicalization has gone in crescendo and he is situated in the orbit of the extreme right. Despite being far from the spotlight, he already caused a stir this August when he advocated returning to census suffrage and restricting the right to vote for millions of citizens for economic reasons. "Those who are conjuncturally receiving an unemployment subsidy or a minimum vital income should not have a vote, since they are being supported by the rest of the taxpayers," he asserted. In the State, there are 2.4 million unemployed and 2.6 million beneficiaries of the minimum vital income.

He defines himself as a "pirate" sailing "without a flag" and at the beginning of the tumultuous adventure in Citizens, from which he fled months after the November 2019 crash, "he even talked about how to select the most interesting profiles within the party", but when he became a deputy he forgot about it.

His latest occurrence has been "the armada of solidarity", with about sixty boats heading to Ceuta – fewer than the Spanish Invincible Armada that failed miserably against England in 1588. And he still wanted to clash with the Ceuta PP government over the "faces" of some councilor in the face of his heated speech: he has even said that he must have thought that "the fact that the meal was paid for by his government", "conferred upon him the right to decide what he could freely say". De Quinto, who believes that "fascism is on the right", in 2019 defined himself as a liberal who historically had "felt close to the left", but currently leads Pie En Pared to "combat the hegemony of the left".
