The Government and the Commons sign today the definitive agreement for the budgets
Illa and Albiach will seal the pact at 11.30 hours and the minister Romero will explain the details in a press conference
BarcelonaThe Government already has all the support to approve the 2026 budgets. After this week's agreement with ERC, validated this Wednesday by the Spanish government, the executive and the Comuns will sign their definitive pact for the accounts this morning. Salvador Illa and Jéssica Albiach will seal the understanding at 11:30 AM at the Palau de la Generalitat, and the Minister of Economy, Alícia Romero, will later explain the details in a press conference. The forecast is that the Government will approve the numbers in an executive council before the end of the week, probably this very Friday.
The agreement with the Comuns is an update of what the two parties already closed in Februarycreation of a general directorate of Housing Disciplinecreation of a General Directorate of Housing Discipline, responsible for inspecting and fining non-compliance with the law in matters such as the cap on rent prices.
In an interview on TV3 this morning, she stated that the amount agreed for housing policies is 2.5 billion euros - in the February agreement it was 1.25 billion euros - and added that they have also agreed with the executive to promote a new law to convert empty offices and commercial premises into official protection housing (HPO). She also pointed out that 1.2 billion euros will be allocated to the Neighborhood Plan. In statements to Catalunya Ràdio, she said that there will also be novelties regarding "poverty" and "territorial investments".
This very afternoon, at 5 p.m., President Illa will sign another agreement related to the budgets with the Third Social Sector. And all this, after in recent hours the pact with ERC has been endorsed both by the State, through the Bilateral Commission with the Generalitat, and by the ranks of Jovent Republicà, the youth wing of ERC. The incógnita that now hovers over the accounts is whether they will incorporate the demands of the educational sector, in a state of war to achieve labor and resource improvements for the centers. The last meeting between the unions and the department ended without agreement but with a new calendar for the negotiation which, for the moment, will be extended this Thursday afternoon, Friday, and Tuesday of next week.
Calendar: approval, in early July
The Government wants to accelerate the budgets as much as possible and, according to Romero, they will be approved by the executive council "before the end of the week" so that they reach Parliament "as soon as possible". From here, he recalled that the processing of the accounts in the Catalan chamber takes about six weeks, so they could see the light in the first half of July. The calendar could be disrupted, however, if any party requests an opinion on the numbers from the Council of Statutory Guarantees, which would have to rule within a month, during which time the budgetary processing would be halted.
