Nacho Cano says he is the victim of judicial persecution for being a friend of the Madrid president.

BarcelonaSince his rise to fame with Mecano, Nacho Cano (Madrid, 1963) has revealed himself as an artist as versatile as he is extravagant: the composer of one of the most important bands of the Movida unilaterally broke with his brother and Ana Torroja, the other two members of the group, and went to Miami frequented by the jet setSince then, he has pursued this line of business in parallel with what is now his main activity: creating musicals. The premiere of the show Malinche put Cano in the eye of the storm when he received an avalanche of complaints from Mexican interns for alleged human trafficking and ended up arrested and booked at the police station. Behind this case, now closed, the artist sees a supposed black hand that, in his opinion, punishes him for harming one of his closest friends: Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

This week, however, Cano went a step further. In an interview on The anthill, He pulled out of nowhere the code of honor of the Civil Guard, the page written by the Duke of Ahumada in 1845, and left it on the table after crying out against the "criminal gang" that he says governs Spain: "I firmly believe that the only ones who will get us out of this ruin are that ruin. The networks were filled with comments wondering If this was an incitement to a coup d'état like the one on 23-F"This is what is in my heart and what I wanted to say today," concluded the composer, who has filed a complaint against the judge who investigated the allegations of Malinche.

The friendship between Cano and Ayuso began in 2021, when the Madrid president awarded her the Medal of the Community of Madrid. Cano began by praising the Popular Party leader's management during the pandemic, and now proclaims that Ayuso is nothing less than the "salvation" of Spain and "the woman who has done the most for vegetarianism" in the State—alluding to her famous phrase against Sánchez: "I like fruit." The Popular Party leader has been to Cano's house in Ibiza on occasion, and the two have even partied together, as he himself explained during another visit to The anthill, in 2022.

Controversy with colonialism

Without joining the ranks of any party, but without hiding his sympathies for the Madrid PP, the former Mecano member has also recently flirted with the most reactionary right: he has been a speaker at a course at the Madrid branch of the Institute of Social, Economic and Political Sciences, linked to the French National Front, How to resume the cultivation of Hispanic heritage.

He was already showing signs of this with some of the statements he made about colonialism following the release of MalincheFor example, he asserted that countries like Mexico, Ecuador, Peru, and El Salvador should be "thankful" that it was the Spanish who invaded them, and not the English, "who would not have left anyone alive." "If we had not discovered America," he said to The World– You wouldn't have that iPhone; Hitler would have won World War II... And yet, historically, we continue to accept that we are sons of bitches," he concluded. Long gone are the days when Cano composed hits as popular as The force of destiny (whose video clip features a young Penélope Cruz, with whom he dated for six years), the anthem against the stigma of HIV The positive ruling or even the wedding song of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia (paid for as a wedding gift by the Madrid City Council).
