The Civil Guard enters the PSOE headquarters

It would be an operation by the UCO within the framework of the secret case

The press waits in front of the PSOE Headquarters in Ferraz

MadridThe Civil Guard has entered the PSOE headquarters. As Europa Press confirms, the UCO appeared at Ferraz street this Wednesday morning to seize information within the framework of the secret investigation. The news broke while the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, was on a trip to Rome, where Pope Leo XVI is receiving him, and fifteen minutes before the control session for the Spanish government was due to start in the Congress of Deputies. In other words, it caught the deputies and journalists waiting in the corridor off guard.

The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, made statements before entering the hemicycle: "We are in an agonizing situation, we are questioning not only the decency of the government and the PSOE but there is a risk of contagion. There is no other remedy but to give the word to the Spanish people immediately. We can't take it anymore." And he sent a message to the partners to make a move and stop supporting Sánchez.

The spokesperson for ERC in Congress, Gabriel Rufián, reiterated that the red line for the Republicans is the irregular financing of the PSOE. However, he described it as a "terrible anomaly" that the Civil Guard enters the headquarters of a political party. "If it happens, we will call for elections and for the people to decide what should happen with the Spanish government," he said. Enrique Santiago, leader of Esquerra Unida in Congress, also expressed the same red line: "We have always been prudent, situations of illegal financing cannot be allowed," he stated. Ione Belarra, from Podemos, spoke of the "disappointment" of progressive people. Another stance was taken by the PSC deputy José Zaragoza, who expressed respect for the investigation: "Collaborating with justice and any decision that is made seems fine to us. We will not criticize any decision of Justice, we will criticize the instrumentalization that some make of it."

Why did the UCO make a move?

The cause that has prompted the request for information from the Civil Guard is, according to La Ser, the cause affecting Leire Díez and SEPI, the State Society for Industrial Holdings. The move comes in the midst of a storm over the Zapatero case, which has left the PSOE in a deadlock. Just yesterday, Judge José Luis Calama postponed the declaration of the former Spanish president until June 17, due to a request from his lawyer and the complexity of the case.
