Valencia"If the left does not agree, then primaries." Gabriel Rufián has taken a further step in defending the broad progressive alliance in an event in Valencia with Mónica Oltra, the former Valencian vice-president and Compromís candidate for the Valencia City Council. The republican leader continues to explain his proposal for a common left-wing front for the upcoming general elections.

their conditions: surrounding themselves with a trusted team and having more decision-making power in MadridOn his particular tour, in Madrid Rufián was accompanied by the spokesperson for Més Madrid, Emilio Delgado; and in Barcelona, by the MEP from Podem Irene Montero. This Friday in Valencia, regional representatives from Podem, María Teresa Pérez, and Esquerra Unida, Rosa Pérez, attended, as well as those from Compromís, Sumar, and Esquerra Republicana.

In the republican's opinion, the left needs to join forces to prevent PP and Vox from coming to power. Therefore, he argues that the best option is to form an electoral alliance between the state progressive forces and the sovereignist forces, which contemplates that in each province the left-wing party with the most traction presents itself or leads the confluence.

Rufián was very clear about his audience present in Valencia, but especially across the State through his online broadcast and video generation, and he spoke mostly in Spanish, unlike Oltra who only spoke in Catalan.

At the head of this broad front could be Rufián, who in May showed himself to be "willing" to lead the space. "If my presence can help, I am willing. Of course," he declared, although he made it clear that it must be the progressive parties as a whole that agree on the visible face of the project. Rufián maintains his proposal for a left-wing front despite the rejection of the republican leadership. In fact, the spokesperson has threatened not to run again as an ERC candidate if the leadership does not accepthis conditions: surrounding himself with a trusted team and having more decision-making power in Madrid

In Oltra's case, it is her first meeting since March 28, when the former Valencian vice-president announced her intention to return to the political forefront to run for mayor of the city of Valencia in the next municipal elections. The event almost coincides with the fourth anniversary of the last meeting she held four years ago.

The rapport between Oltra and Rufián has been known for a long time. In fact, they are two profiles with common points such as greater loyalty to their political ideology than to their parties, a circumstance that in Oltra's case has never been hidden. Both do not hesitate to make statements or defend ideologies that move away from their formations' positions, which often turns into a tug-of-war with their colleagues. In the case of the Valencian vice-president, this confrontation has occurred especially with the main formation that Compromís hosts, the nationalists of Més -Oltra belongs to the ecosocialist party Iniciativa del Poble Valencià-. With them, the progressive leader has maintained continuous discrepancies that were aggravated by her resignation from the Valencian government in 2022 when she was indicted in the case investigating the alleged cover-up of sexual abuse committed by her ex-husband to a minor in her care.
