Nogueras to Sánchez: "The Spanish treasury is a machine for stealing from the Catalans"

MadridTwo and a half months after the massive arrival of immigrants in Ceuta, the crisis in the autonomous city and its consequences continue to mark the agenda and the attacks in Spanish politics. It was central again this Wednesday in Congress, where Pedro Sánchez and Alberto Núñez Feijóo faced each other in a new head-to-head. "Your patriotism is a pure facade, it is one to put on and take off," the Spanish president reproached the opposition leader regarding the PP's criticisms of the management of the crisis. Meanwhile, the spokesperson for Junts, Míriam Nogueras, highlighted the ideological criticism against the Spanish government: "You are a machine for manufacturing the poor," she expressed, blaming the Spanish government for being a "highway for the far-right".

Nogueras attacked the social and housing policies of the eight years of the socialist government, as they consider that there is an impoverishment of the population: "You have been ruling for many years and the result of your policies is an increasingly polarized society and an unbridled far-right". In addition to pointing out the judicial cases surrounding the Spanish government: "The social elevator only goes down and corruption goes up".

For Sánchez, however, the action of his government is precisely the barrier against the ultras, and he boasted about the increase in the minimum wage or the emancipation grants for young people in terms of housing. Furthermore, he extended a hand to Junts against the PP and Vox: "There is much left to do and I hope to cooperate with your parliamentary group".

In any case, the Spanish president submitted himself to the control session with the situation in Ceuta as the main thorn in his government's side, which is struggling to complete the legislature. This Tuesday, Minister Ángel Víctor Torres estimated at 2,084 the number of registered immigrant minors with name, surname, and origin in the autonomous city, but admitted that there may be up to a thousand unregistered ones still wandering the streets.

The migration crisis also reached the European Parliament this Tuesday, with a debate promoted by the PP and amid pressure from Morocco. Rabat sent a pressure letter to several MEPs in which it denied any responsibility for what happened at the southern border on July 30 – a version that Pedro Sánchez still defends – and committed to the readmission of all the people who entered Spanish territory.
