Former Socialist leader Francisco Fernández Marugán died on Tuesday at the age of 79, according to sources within the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) who spoke to the EFE news agency. Born in Cáceres in 1946, he joined the party in 1974 and won a seat in Congress in 1982. He served as a member of parliament for 29 years.
