Valencia"Faced with aggressions, we are the strength of the country". This is the slogan chosen by Acció Cultural del País Valencià for this year's traditional April 25th demonstration, a date on which the defeat of the troops of Archduke Charles of Austria at the hands of Philip V's army in Almansa in 1707 is remembered.

The entity has focused on "the multiple threats facing Valencian society", among which it highlights "aggressions to language, culture and traditions", "attacks on feminism, the LGTBI collective, housing and the environment" and the "constant dismantling of public services". For the president of ACPV, Anna Oliver, the set of democratic societies are suffering attacks from an extreme right that has promoted "a cultural battle" and which, in the Valencian case, is expressed through a Council that "does not govern for everyone and, far from promoting any proposal for improvement, is limited to undoing any progress achieved".

In line with what Oliver expressed, the author of the demonstration's poster, Carles Ubeefe, explained that the image he has created aims to connect with the tradition of Valencian combat poster art and reinforce the message of resistance and collective strength against the rise of fascism. "I have used recurring elements such as the serpent, which in this case is blue and green as a representation of a threat that tries to suffocate our identity and our social achievements, and the four red hands as a metaphor that, when we unite as a people, we have the capacity to overcome any aggression", he detailed.

In addition to the traditional demonstration, which will begin at 6 p.m. in Plaça de Sant Agustí in Valencia, in the morning ACPV will hold the second edition of its awards. These awards will this year honor the publisher and cultural manager Izaskun Arretxe and the Union of Valencian Journalists for their defense of plural and truthful information.
