More trouble for Meghan Markle: the mysterious trademark that cannot be registered
The Duchess of Sussex has announced a new name for the company linked to the Netflix series she will star in

BarcelonaAfter the media storm that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been involved in in recent years, with the revelation of Buckingham Palace's secrets, in 2025 the couple has decided to turn the page and start making money from another source: Meghan Markle's domestic life. This is how the actress and Enric's partner wanted to announce it to the four winds, with the reactivation of her Instagram account, the announcement of the premiere of a new series on Netflix and also the promise of launching a new company. However, her business plan is running into some setbacks. The latest has been the change of name of her future brand, renamed As Ever.
But precisely the stability promised by the name of the new project is not translated into the business matters that surround it. Until this morning, for the more than 1.8 million followers she has on Instagram, the Duchess' future company was still called American Riviera Orchard. "Some of you have heard the rumors of what I've been creating. In two weeks my series is coming to Netflix, but there's something else I've been working on. I'm thrilled to introduce you to As Ever, a brand I've put my heart and soul into," she wrote in the caption of the post of the video in which she announces the rebranding.
A name change that is anything but fortuitous
Despite the appearance of a sudden change of direction, Markle has problems with the nomenclature of the business. In fact, in the second photograph of the new Instagram account published on January 2, she already wrote in the caption the message As Ever, and she has continued to do so in post after post. About this Easter egg –as it is called in the little clues that celebrities drop in their fan community–, has also given explanations: "Last year I thought of "American Riviera" "It sounds cool. It's my neighborhood and a nickname for Santa Barbara," but I was limiting myself to products that were made and grown in this area."
Now, this is not the only argument that has forced the name change. Daily Mail As reported by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, last September the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office denied American Riviera Orchard's application to register it as a new company. This refusal is due to the fact that a multimillion-dollar company called Royal Rivera has been patented since 1934, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office believes that it could cause "confusion.". But the administrative news came half a year after the American Riviera Orchard Instagram account was created. This same account, with nine posts announcing the company's logo and name, now has 596,000 users.
What will Meghan Markle's company sell?
Although many of the details of the renamed company are unknown, Tuesday's post gives some clues as to what the young lady of the King of England promises to launch in a few weeks. "If you have followed me since my beginnings in The Tig, you know that this couldn't be a bigger success for me. This new chapter is an extension of what has always been my love language, uniting everything I like: food, gardening, entertainment, reflective living and finding joy in everyday life," she writes, referring to the blog about her concerns that she closed when she began her relationship with Enric.
. I think that at this point we already know that I love jams, but there will be many other products that I also like a lot," says Markle, who shows that the series about recipes will be closely linked to the launch of the new business. So much so that in the same video she also explained that NetSlix will not only be the platform where LT_LNA~ can be seen
