Bob Pop is running for mayor of Barcelona with the Commons.
The writer and journalist has explained that he wants to run in the party primaries
BarcelonaWriter and communicator Roberto Enríquez Higueras (Madrid, 1971), known as Bob Pop, wants to be mayor of Barcelona. He explained this in his segment on the program. Today from Cadena SER, in which he stated that he is "considering" running "for real" in the upcoming municipal elections as a candidate for the Comú party. He said that he will submit "to all of the organization's participatory processes." He also explained that he has "always" supported Ada Colau and that, after the former mayor "maybe considered not running again," he considered running himself. "I would love to be in a mayoralty with Ada. But if Ada isn't there, why don't I go and run?"
Following Bob Pop's statements, sources at BComú say that the party is at a point where it wants to "refresh its commitment" to the citizens and its project for Barcelona. "That people of the importance of Bob Pop want to offer themselves is a sign that the space is strong, attractive, transversal, and a progressive reference with a chance of regaining the mayoralty," they pointed out. However, the same sources recall that the primary process has not yet begun and that the forecast is for it to start at the end of the year so that the tandem that will lead the list in 2027 can be established by February. Right now, Gerardo Pisarello is the one leading all the predictions.
Bob Pop's ideology
As for Bob Pop, he said that his electoral platform "would be summed up as achieving a city where everything that was necessary wasn't a business." He also indicated that another of his priorities would be to make it clear "from the beginning" what can and cannot be done from the Barcelona mayor's office.
Despite being a native of Madrid, Bob Pop has argued that Barcelona, where he has lived for years, is the city where he would like to take the plunge. "It's a city where you can do things and change things. I have nothing to lose; I don't make a living from politics, but I want to be involved in politics, and being involved in politics from Barcelona could be very good. We could change things and, above all, make people's lives better," he asserted.
Bob Pop would take on the race for mayor without leaving his job as a communications professional. He stated that he would like to enter politics while continuing to develop his other professional practices. In this sense, Àngels Barceló has said that he would be a "mayor theatrical"and, in a humorous tone, he responded by saying that he would be a "star mayor" and that instead of having his office in Plaza Sant Jaume he would have it in "El Molino".
A year ago Bob Pop was involved in a controversy after he stated in an interview withAPM? That it's "classist" to demand that people living in Catalonia learn Catalan. These words raised a storm, especially considering he was then the host of a TV3 program promoting Catalan learning.
