Leaks on the train
On Saturday, the trains stopped working as a precaution, between seven in the evening and two in the afternoon the next day. Since the trains run like clockwork and on the day they have to do construction work or there is an incident they treat you like a subject, they ask for your forgiveness, they provide coaches and smile at you, we didn't argue about it. Someone might say it was overzealous, but we are coming from a weekend in which lives have been lost. On Monday, the trains were already running normally, but the alert sounded mid-morning, when we had all dropped off our children and were at our various jobs.
With this climate change that no one denies anymore (you cannot be a climate change denier and expect farmers to vote for you, by the way) there are many things we need to repair. One of them is the train and metro stations. It is absolutely unacceptable that when it rains hard they get flooded. It is unacceptable that you get off the carriage splashing around. It is unacceptable that you enter the carriage looking for a dry seat. It is unacceptable that you get off the carriage and set out on the journey to the outside dodging leaks and puddles. It is unacceptable that there are areas of a station that you cannot pass through without rowing. And it is unacceptable that you have to wait for a train in the open air, in the middle of the mud, and taking the rain. There are stations where you think: “Here I am sure I won't get mugged, because no mugger is such an idiot to get here without wellies”.
They built the stations in a different climatic and also human moment. It didn't rain little and suddenly, as it does now. There were not so many workers who took public transport to go to work far from their towns or neighborhoods, that was only seen in London. A house with a poorly made roof should be repaired. Most Catalans spend more hours a day in the train, bus, or metro seat than on the sofa.
