Juana's pains

We read in L'ARA that the writer and poet Juana Dolores “is about to abandon Catalan as a literary creation language, due to the systematic pressure and lynching she suffers on social networks”. She reasons it like this: “90% of my work is written in Catalan. If they want me to continue writing in Catalan, I hope the situation changes, because the truth is that I am about to stop doing so and I realize that it is becoming more and more of a hassle for me”.

I don't know if the pressure and lynching are because he writes in Catalan. If so, the pressure and lynching have had an effect. That he is about to give up means that he sends an ultimatum through these networks. I am surprised by this verbal usage. "If you want me to continue writing in Catalan..." He doesn't say it to us, the speakers and enjoyers of his literary work, because otherwise he would say "If you want..." He uses an impersonal "If you want" as if addressing the high spheres and not the rabble. "If you want" him to continue writing, he expects the situation to change. This "I expect" has the necessary component of a threat and I find it very brave on his part. He also realizes, he says, that this writing in Catalan "is getting more bothersome" for him.

Catalan is the only language in the world that is abandoned voluntarily, as a reaction to the treatment you receive from your followers on Instagram and the only one that, because of your followers, makes you increasingly reluctant. No language should make you reluctant. Juana Dolores does not deserve it, and above all, the language does not deserve it. Catalan is a tool, like a farmer's hoe or a doctor's scalpel. And tools should not be a cause for reluctance. I encourage Juana Dolores to abandon Catalan. It will be a great loss, I say this with complete sincerity, but we will get through it. And then, when she already expresses herself in Spanish, we will see if, in the face of the lynchers, of whom there are always some, she considers doing the same.
