There are coworkers who, as soon as they walk through the door, exude confidence that no matter what happens, they will not fail to take on whatever comes their way. They are clean people, with clear priorities, a positive attitude, and a sense of responsibility that manifests in every assignment, without wanting to lecture anyone. And so, through discretion and a job well done, they earn general esteem.
For twelve years, I've been lucky enough to meet a person with these qualities every morning, Alba Om, who is now changing jobs, and in a way, changing her life, as she's leaving behind the endless 24/7 news shift to move into corporate communications. (Well, and it will also change her life because she'll no longer have to endure the almost daily abuse of the Cercanías (local trains), which she used to enter Barcelona and which has provided us with vivid accounts of delays and cans of sardines that were so laughable we couldn't cry.)
These days, when there's so much talk about resumes, it's a good time to remember that in many job positions, attitude is more important than aptitude. There are certain basic rules for navigating life that, beyond personal character, have to do with how you were raised at home, not with your degree, and that retaining talent is essential for any company.
When we started working together at Ara Videos, Alba was 25 years old and had her whole life ahead of her. Today she's still 25, but she already has two daughters behind her, one of whom we greeted each other enthusiastically on the screen during the strange days of lockdown in 2020, when team meetings had to be held remotely. Alba, thank you for making everything so well and so easy all these years. We'll miss you.
