Works stolen from a Barcelona gallery and a Madrid hotel recovered in Italy

There are two paintings by Sorolla and Anglada Camarasa and a sculpture by Javier Martín

BarcelonaSpanish National Police officers received three works of art in Rome that had been stolen in Spain and located in Italy. One is a sculpture by the artist Javier Martín stolen in 2022 from an art gallery in Barcelona. The other two, a painting by Joaquim Sorolla and another by Hermen Anglada Camarasa, were stolen in 2021 during an art exhibition in a hotel in Madrid.

The investigations by the Spanish agents, who have had the collaboration of the Italian police, allowed them to detect that Port of San Sebastian, by Sorolla, and White horse, by Anglada Camarasa. As for Martín's sculpture, it is a bronze work.

After gathering all the information, the procedures were initiated with Interpol to return the pieces to Spain. The Ministry of Culture was in charge of the legal procedures necessary to repatriate the works, which were handed over on Tuesday morning at an event at the Spanish embassy in Rome.
