Busy start to the weekend: where and when it can rain
The passage of a front this Saturday will cause a shower of showers and snow in the Pyrenees

BarcelonaThe weekend will start with a change in the weather. In fact, this Friday we already had the first taste of scattered drizzle in various places, especially on the coast and pre-coast of Barcelona where between 1 and 5 l/m² have been recorded in some cases. The passage of an Atlantic front on Saturday will cause a wave of showers that will sweep across the country from west to east, although it will not rain all day or equally everywhere. Snowfall will also resume in the Pyrenees with an initially very high level that will gradually decrease. Therefore, it will be a Saturday to keep an eye on the sky and keep an umbrella nearby, but on Sunday calm will return. All this with temperatures not very wintry.
Saturday, a round of showers
The first day of the weekend will be busy. The passage of an Atlantic front will cause a flurry of showers from west to east. There will be a little or a lot of rain everywhere, although in several regions the rain will be weak and insignificant, especially in the southern half of the country. The most significant rainfall will affect the northern regions of Lleida in the morning, with drizzle or weak and scattered showers in the rest. And in the afternoon it will fall mainly in areas of the coast and the pre-coast of Barcelona, in Central Catalonia, the regions of Girona and on the southern side of the Pyrenees and the Pre-Pyrenees. In these areas, rainfall may exceed 10 or 20 l/m² in some cases, and some local, somewhat intense storms cannot be ruled out. There will also be some scattered showers in the Valencian Country, and in the evening in the Balearic Islands.
Precipitation will fall in the Pyrenees throughout the day, initially in the western part and later arriving with greater force in the eastern part. The snow level will initially be very high, between 1,800 and 2,000 m, but it will go down and at dusk it will be around 1,600 m, locally lower on the north face. A particularly heavy snowfall is not expected, but between 10 and 20 cm of new snow may accumulate at high altitudes, especially in the Alt Pirineu. Therefore, if you are going skiing, take chains or contact tires just in case.
All this with temperatures that will drop with colder weather in the Pyrenees, but will rise a little on the coast and in the pre-coast. Overall, we will continue with values that are not very wintry. Until mid-morning, the southerly wind will blow in the Alt Empordà and the peaks of the Pyrenees, but from the evening onwards the Tramontana wind will blow on the Costa Brava, as well as a bit of Mistral wind on the Ebro.

On Sunday, calmer
The front will quickly move away and Sunday will be a much calmer and more enjoyable day. In the early morning and into the early hours of the morning there may still be some light rainfall in parts of the Pyrenees, the northeast and the coast, but it will eventually move away.
It will be a calmer and sunnier day, but with some cloudy intervals near the sea, in regions of the northeast and in the Pyrenees, without major consequences. On the other hand, in the Balearic Islands there will still be some showers, especially in the early morning and in the morning. Temperatures will rise and the weather will be mild for the time of year at midday, with a northerly wind at the extremes that will clearly decrease.
Weather changing next week
Next week, a couple more Atlantic fronts may arrive, bringing showers in some regions and snow in the Pyrenees, with temperatures gradually falling. For the moment, there are no major cold spells or significant rains in sight.
