Musicante: the festival that only programs music in Catalan
With a line-up made up exclusively of musicians who sing in Catalan, as is the trademark of the house, the Campllong Music Festival will hold a new edition from June 25th to 29th, and will include a gastronomic space, the MusicanTast, where spectators can sample local cuisine. This year's guest musicians are Els Catarres, as part of their tour to present their new album; soprano Mireia Tarragó and musician Bernardo Rambeaud, who will open the festival with a performance in the parish church, interpreting pieces by Toldrà, Cassadó, and Morera; singer Mariona Escoda, who on the 26th will sing songs from her new album accompanied by her band; Manu Guix, with a review of the songs that have established him as one of the most acclaimed performers of Catalan music; and Mallorcan singer-songwriter Tomeu Penya, who will close the festival on the 29th with a performance as part of his 45 Years Tour. The concerts will be held in the church square and inside the church.
The festival is organized by the Campllong Town Council with the support of a board made up of people linked to the cultural, social, and economic fabric of the area, and enjoys the support and collaboration of the residents of this small town in Gironès. In fact, the seed of the festival lies in the entrepreneurial spirit of the residents, who in August 2003 decided to organize a series of four concerts after the festival. That small musical series gradually evolved into the current Musicant, a festival that has always focused on music in Catalan and made in the Catalan Countries.
Istiu: the festival of maximum proximity
Fifth edition of theCastellón de Empúries and Empuriabrava Route, the festival that seeks maximum proximity in all areas. "We program in spaces that hold no more than 400 people, so that the audience enjoys being close to the artist," says Martí Fontclara, the festival's artistic director. "The audience appreciates it and lets us know it," he adds.
"The Santa Clara convent holds 100 people and you have the artist no more than 10 meters away. And the artists enjoy it too, a few have told us…" Ferran Palau stopped the concert and said it was the first time in a long time that he had the feeling that the audience was listening to him. If you're a fan.
The summer festival always takes place the first week of July and includes between 13 and 15 concerts, some of which are free, while the paid ones cost between 10 and 15 euros. "That means we have people who don't just come to see one concert, but also stay one or two nights in the town to see two or three concerts. In just five editions, we've built up a loyal following that asks us when the program will be released so they can make their plans."
This proximity also translates into the lineup of four artists who are connected to the town and the region. Also locally produced is a craft beer bearing the festival's name, brewed by the CDR (Cerveza de Roses) brewery. "It all ties in very well with the festival's philosophy of doing everything with great local influence," concludes Fontclara.
