Merz calls for Europe's "independence" from the United States in defence matters

He winner of the elections in Germany, Friedrich Merz, calls for efforts to make Europe independent of the United States in terms of defence. The future chancellor has said that his "absolute priority" is to strengthen Europe and that means not depending on Washington for its defence.
