Leo Messi finally chooses the best goal of his career.
As part of a charity initiative, the Argentinean opts for one of the goals he scored with Barça

BarcelonaLeo Messi has scored more than 800 goals throughout his career, the most recent just a few days ago against Minnesota in Major League Soccer (MLS). Many of them were decisive in winning titles or creating historic moments; some are remembered for their beauty, others for their brilliance, others were not scored while defending the Argentine national team, and others, with Barça, Paris Saint-Germain or Inter Miami.
Much has been said, and even debated, about the most notable goals throughout his career, for the achievements they represented or for their unique aesthetic. However, now, for the first time, Messi chooses his favorite goal. And he will do so to carry out an artistic and charitable project never seen before in the history of football and art. The goal in question will be immortalized thanks to the artist Refik Anadol, a key figure in 21st-century art, whose sculpted creations, using data and artificial intelligence, have redefined the boundaries between art and technology.
The goal in question is the one he scored in the Champions League final in Rome in May 2009. It rounded off an unbeatable season, with a spectacular hat trick, the first in the history of a football club, with Pep Guardiola's Barça. Messi flew to head in a Xavi Hernández cross in the second half of the match against Manchester United, which ended 2-0 in favor of the Catalans. "At the time, for what it meant, for me it's the most significant goal of all," concludes the Rosario legend in an Instagram video distributed by Inter Miami.
Messi's work will be officially revealed on June 11.
The proceeds from this historic initiative—which is expected to break fundraising records—will be donated to charitable projects. Among them is a collaboration between the Inter Miami Foundation and UNICEF, which promotes access to quality educational programs for children in five Latin American and Caribbean countries. The final work, which will be officially unveiled in New York on June 11 by Christie's, the world's leading auction house, will bear the signatures of both artists and consist of two interconnected elements: the purest visual representation of Messi's chosen goal and Anadol's interpretation, generated from millions of data points linked to that moment.
