Car sales in Catalonia registered 40,847 registrations during the first four months of this year, indicating a year-on-year increase of 9.4%, according to data from the Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers (ANFAC). This growth represents a 10.8% share of the total for the state, making Catalonia the third-largest region in car sales, after Madrid, with 172,639 units sold, and the Valencian Community, with 51,237. The total number of plug-in hybrid vehicles sold—including passenger cars, SUVs, commercial vehicles, buses, and quadricycles—was 3,428, a 41.95% increase compared to last year, and electric vehicle sales totaled 4,484.

In the rest of Spain, car sales have grown by 12.2%, with 377,889 units sold in the first four months of the year. In April alone, the electric sector grew by 79% compared to the same period last year, with almost 16,000 units sold, representing 16.2% of sales for the entire month. Growth has been accelerated by registrations in the DANA zone, where they benefit from the Reinicia Auto+ plan, which offers aid to encourage the purchase of new and pre-owned vehicles, and MOVES III subsidies to incentivize the electric, plug-in hybrid, and fuel cell passenger car market. Another important factor has been the Basque Country's Low-Emission Vehicles Plan, which launched last month to promote the purchase of electric and combustion-engine cars. Although April marked the eighth month of growth in passenger car sales, the market is still 13% below pre-pandemic figures.

ANFAC's Director of Communications and Marketing, Félix García, emphasized that, currently, market forecasts could indicate sales exceeding one million this year, taking into account that in 2025 the market is already 12% above the previous year. Furthermore, García indicates that the general blackout on Monday, April 28, has not had serious consequences for the automotive market, noting that "the units that were not registered that day were registered on subsequent days."
