The eight most notable video games of this June

The Switch 2 marks a busy June, which also sees the arrival of the long-awaited sequel to 'Death Stranding'.

The end of the school year and the pre-holiday atmosphere are signs of movement within the sector. Nintendo chooses this month to launch its new console, which arrives with Mario Kart World as the clear protagonist. PlayStation is betting on publishing one of its big titles of the year, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Apart from this, this month is not only marked by the titles that are now arriving, but also by those that will be announced or those that will share more details at a series of events such as Summer Game Fest, Wholesome Direct, Xbox Games Showcase, PC Gaming Show or Steam Next Fest. The presentation of new releases is expected, but also the setting of closer release dates, now that there is no fear of coinciding with the GTA VI, as it has been confirmed that it will be launched in May 2026.

The flagship video game for the launch of the new Nintendo Switch 2 is the new installment of the popular racing series set in the universe of Mario and company. This is not surprising, considering that the best-selling title for the original Switch is the previous installment of the series, a reissued version after being released for Wii U more than a decade ago. Mario Kart World For the first time, up to 24 racers compete simultaneously, and all the action takes place within a freely explorable, interconnected world. New competition modes are also included, such as the Knockout Tour, featuring a knockout system on a large circuit that connects different locations. This title is inspired by the famous literary universe of Dune, which has gained a lot of popularity recently thanks to film adaptations. It also includes common survival game mechanics, such as exploring, collecting, and thriving. The visionary Hideo Kojima, responsible for the saga Metal Gear, lets his creative freedom fly again to shape the sequel to Death Stranding, a pioneering and innovative work that broke barriers in 2019. Far beyond being just a walking simulator, the saga explores a science fiction universe with a plot laden with very human themes such as death, the afterlife, and human connection. On the Beach continues the story of Sam Porter, joined by old and new faces, all played by a high-caliber cast. The sequel will explore the consequences of the decisions made in the original title's plot and will place greater emphasis on the action elements, while also allowing the protagonists to travel to new, uncharted territories. The game is temporarily released exclusively on PS5 but will eventually arrive on other platforms.
