TV3 leads the New Year's Eve broadcast with an upward trend, while in Spain Pedroche suffers a sharp decline.

Antena 3 achieves its worst result since 2017

BarcelonaMiki Núñez and Laura Escanes once again made headlines, for the third time. 36.1% of Catalans chose TV3's broadcast to ring in the New Year, and the public broadcaster was once again the leader. This is the best result for this duo, who debuted with a 35.2% audience share in 2024 and followed it with 32.2% in 2025. At the moment the bells rang from Maria Cristina Avenue in Barcelona, the share climbed to 40.5%. The second position, in terms of the New Year's Eve broadcast, went to La 1, with a 25.4% share. share and an average of 596,000 viewers. Much further behind, Cristina Pedroche and Alberto Chicote had to settle for 13.2% and 302,000 viewers (to which can be added the 108,000 from La Sexta, an additional 4.8%, since Atresmedia's second channel declined to have its own program). In any case, even with the combined 410,000 viewers and 18.0% share, they couldn't compete with Chenoa and Estopa, who could also be augmented by the 90,000 viewers and 3.8% share of La 2, for a total of 30.2% and 686,000.

In fact, Atresmedia's result was so poor that even La 1's 1 a.m. broadcast of the Canary Islands' New Year's Eve chimes garnered more viewers in Catalonia: 397,000 viewers and a 25.1% share.

When it came to the subsequent specials, however, the battle was decidedly in favor of La 1: its welcome program for 2026 achieved a 26.6% share and 443,000 viewers in Catalonia, clearly surpassing theAPM? Sessionwhich remained at 253,000 and 17.2%. The third option was the ironic nostalgia of Bits of iron and chromeOn La 2, it attracted 16.3% of the audience and an average of 163,000 viewers, above the 132,000 and 8.9% who tuned in to Antena 3's offering.

Antena 3's major flop

Meanwhile, in Spain, the Pedroche effect is showing clear signs of waning. After a brief three-year reign, from 2022 to 2024, Broncano and Lalachús managed to reclaim the traditional crown held by La 1 last year. The question for 2026 was whether the improvised option of Chenoa and Estopa (filling in for Pedroche) would cause them to relinquish first place.

The answer is a resounding no. During the minute of the New Year's Eve chimes, La 1 was the clear leader with 36.3%, while Antena 3 had to settle for 24.1%. Just a year ago, the difference in ratings had been half a point. In fact, it's Antena 3's worst performance since 2017, although it's worth noting that La Sexta's combined audience share was also present, which in this case reached 6.5%. But even adding the 30.6% of Atresmedia's channels doesn't come close to the 41.8% achieved by the state-run public television, once you include the 5.5% of viewers who chose to watch Chenoa and the Muñoz brothers on La 2. Much further behind, Mediaset, the ski resort of Formigal-Panticosa, once again posted non-existent results: only 3% of Spaniards welcomed the new year watching their broadcast, to which you can add the 1.1% from Cuatro, with whom they shared the broadcast. Interestingly, TV3 is the only television channel in the entire country that obtained a share highest in its field of action (40.5%) and was third in absolute number of viewers despite having a much smaller geographical coverage.
