The 'Anuari Mèdia.cat' focuses on 'anti-woke' narratives
The Observatory of Critical Media, driven by the Ramon Barnils Group of Journalists, publishes a new issue of the volume of analysis of the journalistic sector
BarcelonaThe rise of far-right narratives is one of the common threads in the new Anuari Mèdia.cat, which was presented this Tuesday. The report, edited since 2011 by the Ramon Barnils Journalists Group and celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, compiles analyses and reports that address issues such as the emergence of podcasts that criminalize a supposed woke ideology, the rise of the techno-reactionary elite, and the access of pseudojournalists to institutions.
One of the main reports in the study is by journalist Nico Tomás, which identifies the narratives and common points detected in anti-woke podcasts in Catalan, Spanish, and English. Based on the analysis of 150 hours of audio, it has been confirmed that there are common strategies with anti-immigration, anti-feminist discourses, and those against the media. Another of the pieces included in this yearbook is an analysis of the role played by techno-reactionary elites in the erosion of democracy. The article, by far-right specialized journalist Alba Sidera, emphasizes the practice of journalism as a tool to combat techno-fascism. In this vein, the Anuari Mèdia.cat also publishes an interview by journalist Maria Bouabdellah with American historian Mark Bray, author of the book Antifa and currently exiled in Madrid due to threats.
This edition also features a report by Pol Baraza on how Parliaments are preparing to confront pseudojournalists and how the Parliament of Catalonia and the Congress of Deputies are shielding themselves against the presence of far-right agitators. Finally, this issue also includes a report on how the television channel À Punt has been affected by the arrival of the new management and an interview with RTVE correspondent Almudena Ariza.
