RTVE is liquidating its 'Sálvame' program, 'The Family on TV'.
Audience data has forced public television to drop the laundry program.

BarcelonaA month and a half. This is how long it lasted. The TV family on La 1. The program, which landed on public television as a kind of resurrection of the Save me Telecinco's program, was unable to cope with the loss of audiences, and tomorrow will be its last program, according to the show's presenters. Since its premiere on May 5, viewership figures have continued to decline, despite the fact that RTVE management has tried various methods to save its numbers, even resorting to trickery, such as extending the program a few minutes to attract people who connected to the channel to watch the serials. But it was in vain: last week it dropped to 5.6% share which left it one tenth below La2, a channel with a much smaller viewer base. And this Monday a new movement was tried in the schedule, moving it to the last hour, also without success: a historical low with a 4.3% share and only 309,000 viewers in the whole State.
The beginning of The TV family It was already eventful, as the premiere was delayed twice, first by the death of Pope Francis and then by the general blackout that occurred in Spain on April 28. When it finally premiered, with a good part of the collaborators of Save me like Maria Patiño or Belén Esteban, was the target of numerous criticisms, both external and internal, from the RTVE staff. A few days after its first broadcast, the RTVE news council, the body that represents the company's journalists, issued a statement urging the presidency of the public corporation to regain credibility. The complaint arose from a connection made from the Vatican by a contributor to the network's afternoon magazine, using a La1 microphone like the ones used by journalists in the newsroom.
More than a hundred former RTVE employees also expressed their displeasure with the program. "As former RTVE employees, we want to show our support for the statement published by the TVE news council and join in the criticism of the harm that a program like The TV family could have on the image of a public television channel," the statement said.
In addition to the criticism, starting on June 3, the program was drastically cut back - it was reduced to just one hour - as a measure to stem the loss of audience. The strategy has proved unsuccessful. Pablo López defended the program's continuity in Congress, although he was open to changing his mind: "I have to be convinced that the program has no chance of recovering, and I don't have that conviction today. Perhaps in a month [...]. I'd rather be wrong than not try."
