The ARA is organizing the 'Enfoquem' conference on January 23 and 24 at the CCCB
BarcelonaBritish journalist John Carlin; the editorial director of Le MondeSylvie Kauffmann; the American historian Mark Bray; the economist Miquel Puig; and the former mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, are some of the prominent names who will participate in the conference. We focus: the solutions forumA conference organized by the newspaper ARA will be held on January 23 and 24 at the Centre for Contemporary Culture in Barcelona. Its aim is to debate, reflect on, and seek answers to humanity's greatest challenges: climate change, democracy, housing, and human relationships.
"We want to build a space of trust inspired by a critical spirit, but not mired in criticism. It's an invitation to leave behind sterile complaining and reclaim the initiative: we think together, understand better, and move to action, putting the citizen at the center, as the main agent of transformation," they state. ARA subscribers can reserve a ticket for free, and general admission has a symbolic cost of €2, which grants access to all presentations. Participants will need to choose which time slot they wish to register for.
Conference Program
The forum will begin on Friday the 23rd at 6pm with a conversation between the director of ARA, Esther Vera, and the editorial director of Le MondeSylvie Kauffmann. Next, Mark Bray, author of the book Antifa and who has had to go into exile from the US due to threats from the Trumpist far right, will speak with Carme Colomina, a researcher at CIDOB and columnist for ARA. The day will conclude with a panel on Europe and the world order, featuring Cristina Gallach, Blanca Garcés, Xavier Vives, and Toni Roldán. Journalist and philosopher Josep Ramoneda will offer closing remarks.
Saturday, the 24th, will begin with a dialogue between John Carlin and Laura Rosel on the role of chance in life and the course of events. This will be followed by two panels on climate change with the participation of Francisco Javier Vera, Evelyn Segura, Gemma Puig, Mar Reguant, Andreu Escrivà, and Daniel Pérez. Science journalist Cristina Sáez will provide the final analysis. At 1:30 p.m., Maria Sisternas and Carme Trilla will discuss housing, and at 2:00 p.m., Valentí Fuster will talk with Mònica Planas about the state of science. In the afternoon, the focus will shift back to housing in Barcelona, with Miquel Puig and Ada Colau. This will be followed by a roundtable discussion on human relationships with Liliana Arroyo, Imane Rsaissali, and Joan Burdeus, moderated by Albert Om. The final analysis will be given by journalist Roger Escapa, just before a group discussion with all participants.
