'Crims' delves into a popular jury
Carles Porta's new project is a podcast that explains two crimes from a new perspective.
BarcelonaThe universe of Carles Porta and Crimes continues to expand. The benchmark for crime fiction in Catalonia will explore new ground this season with Crimes, the jury, a podcast that will be available starting this Monday and that delves into the lives of two juries who must decide the guilt or innocence of several defendants. There are eleven episodes in total, each lasting 30 minutes, that will tell the story of two crimes from the perspective of the citizens who served on the jury.
The official presentation of the new format will take place this Monday in a special edition of The afternoon of Catalunya Ràdio, of Francesc Garriga, which will be held in the Aula Magna of the University of Barcelona's Faculty of Law and will feature Carles Porta. There will be an audience of 300 people—tickets sold out in two hours—and 11 will be chosen—the same number as a jury—to preview the first episode of the podcast.
The Porqueres Case and the Fitor Case
The first four episodes of Crimes, the jury focus on the Porqueres case, in which a man was accused of killing his wife by stabbing her fifteen times. Although it seems like an easy case, in practice it wasn't for the jury, who knew their decision could lead to a 25-year prison sentence. From episodes five to eleven, the podcast will cover the so-called Fitor case, another murder, that of a waiter in Platja d'Aro. The jury's deliberations lasted two days, longer than usual. During the trial, the nine jurors heard the same witnesses, the same experts, and the same arguments from the different lawyers. They saw the same images, but they couldn't agree and couldn't reach a valid majority either to convict or acquit the defendant.
Beyond the new podcast, the brand Crimes is preparing new television episodes. Two new episodes of the series will premiere at the next edition of the Sitges Film Festival, which takes place from October 9 to 19. true cimePorta will discuss the Bellvitge case, in which two police trainees were murdered by a man who was ultimately sentenced to 94 years in prison. The episodes, which will premiere in Sitges, will soon be broadcast on TV3 and 3Cat.
