Andreu Buenafuente and Sílvia Abril will not be presenting the New Year's Eve broadcast on RTVE after all.
The comic book artist, who has been on sick leave for three weeks due to work-related stress, says he doesn't want to "speed up" his recovery.

For the moment, RTVE has not announced who will replace the duo for the New Year's Eve broadcast, which is two and a half weeks away. Buenafuente justifies his decision by saying he doesn't want to "speed up" his recovery: "I don't see anything good in forcing myself to do a job one day. You have to come back healthy and be on the right track, with the serenity to get back to doing what I love," he says. He admits that "it's not easy" to stop a running "machine" like the show's to ring in the new year, but insists that he is still not well and appreciates the understanding he says he has received from RTVE.
"It's extremely important that they don't make you feel guilty or wrinkle their noses and ask you what you need," says Buenafuente, aware of the blow his resignation represents for the Spanish public broadcaster. He and his wife, actress Silvia Abril, were set to take over from David Broncano and Lalachus, who last year welcomed in 2025 from the Puerta del Sol in Madrid and were the top-rated hosts nationwide.
Without saying how long his leave might last, he assures everyone that his goal is to recover and return to "everyday life": "We can't do the New Year's Eve broadcast, but there will be many more things in the future." He makes it clear, however, that first he needs to be "calm, calm, and ready," and admits that what he needs right now is not to have a "demanding horizon." "I don't know what's going to happen," he says.
Nevertheless, the comic book artist extends his thanks for the support he has received at SER, where his program is currently on hold.
