Among the vast array of podcasts available on various platforms, there are hundreds upon hundreds of Catalan-language podcasts. Therefore, ARA has compiled a selection of ten formats for you to discover—unless you're already familiar with them—that aim to bring listeners original content that breaks away from the mainstream.
Laughter
Carles Capella, Marc Llibre, and Àlex Agudo host this podcast, which began in 2019. They describe it as a "humorous and current affairs" program where they say what they think. Broadcasting from the radio studios in Molins de Rei, they've become popular for their conversations with well-known figures like Jordi Basté, Gerard Quintana, Maria Vallespí, and Miki Núñez, and for their broadcasts of Real Madrid matches, always critical of the team. Jana Jubert and Laura Grau are the hosts of How to tell you, a podcast from the Guillem Agulló School that discusses current political affairs with the help of expert voices from the Catalan Countries. The project began in November 2023 and has already produced 40 episodes covering topics such as the Catalan music industry, Donald Trump, and sexual violence and feminism. The perverse round It's a program produced by Radiofónicos, a school specializing in radio broadcasting. The presenter is David Balaguer, a teacher at the school and a journalist who has worked for various media outlets such as RAC1, Catalunya Ràdio, TV3, and La 2. This podcast aims to find the most wicked celebrity in Catalonia, and in each episode, two popular figures, such as Sílvia Abril, Marc Giró, or Tomás Molina, face off, each having to answer wicked questions. The Darkest Night
For the past eight years The Darkest Night It explores the darkest episodes of true crime. Those crimes that once shook society are now explained in depth by Ràdio Vilafant and Ona Digital. With over 560 episodes, a new one is released every Friday. For one hour, they recount the cases and stories of killers like Thomas Creech, Francisca Ballesteros, Cindy James, and Eric Smith. The extension It's described as "a sports program, not just about football," but it has evolved into a format that features interviews with prominent figures in Catalan culture, such as Joan Roca, Bojan Krkić, Marc Ribas, and Artur Mas. Gerard Martos, Gael García, and David Alcaraz are the three young hosts of this podcast, where they try to find out everything about their guests. The spoonful It's the gastronomic podcast of Time Out Barcelona. Andrea Gumes Andreu Juanola and his team present this program on the first Monday of every month, in which they meet with well-known people from different fields who explain what they love and hate about cooking. The episodes include conversations with various chefs, a young sommelier who brings the world of wine to life from a friendly and entertaining perspective, and recommendations for the best places to eat and drink in Barcelona. What happened to you?
Journalists Albert Om and Joan Maria Pou launched this project in February 2025. From the cocktail bar of JOK Barcelona restaurant, located at number 275 on Mallorca Street, they have unfiltered conversations about radio, television, and their life experiences. It's a monthly chat, recorded live with an audience, in which the journalists surprise each other by answering the simple question: "What's been happening to you?"
