Trump withdraws Secret Service protection from Kamala Harris

The president leaves his former political rival without guarantees of protection, just as he has already done with Joe Biden.

WashingtonPresident Donald Trump has revoked Secret Service protection for former Vice President and Democratic rival Kamala Harris, multiple US media outlets have reported.

The Secret Service typically continues to protect vice presidents six months after their term ends, but in Harris's case, former President Joe Biden signed an order extending the protection beyond that, according to CNN. Had that not been the case, the protection would have ended on July 21.

The memorandum Trump signed states that the withdrawal of protection for Harris will be effective next Monday, September 1. The revocation of security guarantees for his former political rival during the 2024 election campaign coincides with the start of the tour that Harris had to do to promote his book 107 Days, a memoir about the presidential campaign. Despite losing in the presidential race, Harris hasn't completely ruled out the possibility of trying again in 2028.

The withdrawal of Secret Service protection not only means that Harris will no longer have the agents assigned to monitor her, but she will also lose the constant analysis of their intelligence on intelligence.

Harris joins the list of enemies from whom Trump has withdrawn security guarantees, as already happened with former President Joe Biden and the Republican's former advisor, John Bolton. One by one, the president is carrying out small revenge against his rivals, just as he promised. Last week, the FBI showed up at Bolton's home in Bethesda, Maryland, to carry out a search. The operation was part of an investigation to determine whether Bolton improperly shared or possessed classified information.
