Initial investigations confirm that a cable on Lisbon's historic funicular has broken.

An underground cable connecting the two carriages of the historic funicular that crashed in Lisbon on Wednesday snapped at the attachment point for one of the cabins, according to the initial findings of the investigation being conducted by the government agency in charge of the case.
