The survey also asked about arms shipments, in which case the results differ between those opposed to Russia and Israel. On the one hand, 33% of the population supports sending arms to Ukraine, 26% oppose it, and 30% take no position. According to the ICIP director, the data confirm that "there is more support than opposition to sending arms to Ukraine, but many people are confused and do not take a position." On the other hand, when asked about Hamas, only 7% would send arms, and a large majority, 68% of respondents, are opposed.
Half of Catalans are in favor of breaking relations with Israel and Russia.
Unlike the international community, the majority of the population equates the aggressions committed by both countries

BarcelonaHalf of Catalans agree or strongly agree with severing trade ties with Israel for the duration of the Gaza war. And nearly half (48%) want to cut ties with Russia for the duration of the war in Ukraine. However, the opinion of maintaining relations with both states is truly a minority one: less than 20% of the population supports it. These are the initial conclusions of the Survey on Coexistence and Security in Catalonia, commissioned by the Catalan International Institute for Peace (ICIP), which confirms that the Catalan population has a similar view regarding Israel and Russia.
"Unlike the European Union and several member states, Catalan society condemns with the same force the military aggressions of Russia and Israel. This shows us a society committed to the suffering of others, regardless of the aggressor," maintains ICIP director Kristian Herbolzheimer.
Regarding the representation of countries in international sports and artistic competitions, the figures are similar: practically half of the population also supports excluding Israel and Russia (48% and 47%, respectively), compared to 20% who are opposed. The same is true when asked about diplomatic representation: 44% of respondents support withdrawing representation in Israel and 42% agree with doing so in Russia, compared to 18% who are opposed. The remaining third do not take a position or state they do not know.
Catalans generally believe that some kind of action is needed in both wars. Only 22% of those surveyed agree with not getting involved in the conflict in Gaza and treating Israel normally, and 26% hold the same opinion about Russia. In fact, when asked about an unspecified aggressor, 67% of respondents agree or strongly agree with severing trade ties, 60% are in favor of excluding an aggressor state from sports competitions, and 57% are in favor of withdrawing diplomatic representation.
