BarcelonaOver the past three days, the presidents of China and Russia, Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin, have spent a lot of time and conversations together. They have not only discussed geopolitics, but this Wednesday they were also heard talking about more philosophical issues such as the immortality of humans. A background microphone captured the conversation as they headed to the podium to attend the the military parade in Beijing's Tiananmen Square.

"In the past, it was rare for someone to live past seventy, but these days, it's said that seventy is still a child," Xi's Russian translator said. Putin's Mandarin translator then said, "With the development of biotechnology, human organs can be transplanted continuously, and people can live younger and younger, and even achieve immortality." Xi's translator then added, "Predictions are that in this century, there is a possibility of living to 150."

Both leaders are 72 years old. Putin has been in power in Russia for 25 years, while Xi has been in power for 13 years, and neither has indicated any intention of stepping aside.

Later, at a press conference, Putin confirmed that he and his Chinese counterpart had discussed longevity: "Yes, President Xi Jinping spoke about it when we attended the parade," Putin said when asked about the conversation.

"Modern healing methods, medicine, and even all kinds of surgery related to organ replacement allow humanity to hope that a long life span will be prolonged in a different way than it is today," Putin summarized.
