Transgourmet Ibérica completes its business transformation coinciding with the celebration of its one hundred years of history

The closing ceremony for the centenary of the leading food distribution company was held at the MNAC with more than 300 people in attendance.

BarcelonaThis year, Transgourmet Ibérica has completed the transformation process the company began in 2019 with the aim of modernizing and consolidating its food distribution business model, both in the hospitality sector and in franchised convenience supermarkets. This evolution of the sector has coincided with a historic milestone: the celebration of its centenary. Throughout the year, the company has combined significant strategic initiatives with a commemorative program, highlighting its century-long history. During this year, Transgourmet Ibérica has invested €85 million, including the acquisitions of Dispuig and Moyà Saus and the creation of Nuditrans in partnership with Nudisco. With these operations, the company has expanded its reach into three key regions: Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, and the Valencian Community.

In addition, it has carried out renovations at several GM Cash centers and has started construction on a new cash & carry in Mercabarna, whose opening is scheduled for March 2026. With this new space, conceived under an innovative format that will integrate logistics and point-of-sale functions, they intend to reinforce operational efficiency and the customer experience.

The general manager of Transgourmet Ibérica, Lluís Labairu, described this growth and transformation process as a "success," "since it has allowed us to adapt quickly to market changes. Our goal is to supply independent restaurants throughout Spain and be a leading operator in the local quality franchise."

The MNAC hosts the final celebration of the centenary

In this significant year for the company, the centenary celebrations culminated this Wednesday with an event at the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC) in Barcelona. Transgourmet Group President Joos Sutter opened the event, highlighting the value that defines the company's 100 years: "Service to people and the community around us. A vocation that will continue to drive our future."

Next, Lluís Labairu, CEO of Transgourmet Ibérica, highlighted "the effort of the thousands upon thousands of people who, since 1925, have contributed their hard work and commitment, who have believed in this project and who have helped build what we are today."

Josep Rull, President of the Parliament of Catalonia, and Òscar Ordeig, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food of the Government of Catalonia, also participated.

Among the more than 300 guests were also the Vice President of the Transgourmet Group, Doris Leuthard; the Deputy Government Delegate in Girona, Pere Parramon; the Consul General of Switzerland in Barcelona, ​​Othmar Hardegger; the President of the Girona Chamber of Commerce, Jaume Fàbrega; and the Vice President of Fomento del Trabajo, Lluís Moreno Lasalle. Representatives from the Barcelona and Vilamalla City Councils also attended, as well as representatives from the main industry associations, such as ASEDAS, AECOC, and Hostelería de España. The choice of the MNAC for the final centenary celebration symbolizes Transgourmet's historical connection with Catalonia, one of the key regions in its development and business expansion.

More than 3,000 people have accompanied the company this year

As part of the commemoration, Transgourmet Ibérica wanted to pay tribute to the people who have contributed to building its history. To this end, it organized events in various cities, including Girona, Málaga, Burgos, Tarragona, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and Madrid. More than 3,000 people participated in these gatherings, which served to recognize the fundamental role of employees, customers, and suppliers in the company's evolution. This collective recognition comes at a key moment for the company, which has a team of 1,270 people in Catalonia, 24 centers focused on the hospitality and retail sectors – spread across Barcelona (13), Girona (6), Tarragona (4) and Lleida (1) – and more than 350 duty-free supermarkets. This solid presence in the region is part of a structure that extends throughout Spain, where Transgourmet Ibérica has nearly 2,800 employees, seven distribution platforms, and 73 centers. cash & carry29 GM Oil service stations and some 700 stores under the Suma, Proxim, and Spar brands.
